Why Kurt Angle Will Be In MMA!
As many are aware, Kurt Angle has talked MMA for awhile now. And I have said it was a bad idea many times for the 38-year-old. He is getting up in age, and he has a history of neck injuries.
So why would he be in MMA? Well as some are not aware, Angle's TNA contract expires in the spring of 2009. And he is rumored to not be asking any offers from TNA and is going to MMA.
Now wether it is UFC or not is questionable, but he has been in training for well over a year now and would be two years in the spring of 2009. He would be ready to take on competition right away if he wanted.
There was talk with UFC President Dana White that he offered Angle a chance to come to UFC before he signed with TNA about two or three years ago. He knew Angle was considering it when he left the WWE.
But he only signed with TNA for the money and because he would be the No. 1 guy there. He still is the No.1 guy in TNA and that has not faltered in the slightest. He was the No.1 guy in the WWE before he left even.
Angle has been popular everywhere he went, from Japan to the United States. He actually became friends with UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar in the WWE, but they became even better friends in Japan together. This was before he signed with TNA.
Lesnar knew he would be better off out of Japan and in MMA, so he went for it. He has been successful and in only his fourth fight he became UFC Champion beating Randy Couture in what some are saying was a predetermined fight.
Angle, though, would be a huge addition to any MMA organization looking for a big name. He has been known worldwide while in the WWE. He was popular overseas and right here in the U.S. in TNA as well.
He first got his name out there when he won the Olympic Gold Medal in the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. I believe he would most likely get easy fights his first couple in, wherever he goes.
Angle might be in UFC since he does have a relationship with Lesnar and has spoken many times with Dana White. Just like Lesnar, he may do a couple of Indy events in MMA before.
I'm sure UFC would like to see how he fights and performs before signing him. He is a huge name and with that it means money. It seems lately that UFC really likes the money part.
It really doesn't matter if it is a good fight or not. If it gets popularity and hype, it will be bought, therefore bringing in money and making UFC even more dominant than it already is.
It may not happen in UFC for Angle, but if it does it may not be long. But he will be in some MMA place who wants to get money. Angle's name alone could get you wrestling fans attention along with MMA fans.
That is why Lesnar's fight with Couture was so successful. It had the wrestling fans interest along with the MMA fans. Dana White knows this and that is why I am sure he is considering the possibility of bringing him in.
I know you hardcore MMA fans out there might think Angle is a chump or could never last in MMA and that all he will ever be is a fake fighter. Don't let wrestling fool you. It could be just as bad as MMA fights sometimes.
Sure they may not really punch or kick each other hard, but falling off a 20 foot ladder onto the ground hurts, believe me. I know if you're an MMA fan, you may not be a wrestling fan, and that is cool.
But just realize just like the WWE, UFC, and other MMA organizations are businesses. And if they can bring in a name everyone knows, they will take a chance.
But what do you think, will Kurt Angle ever be in MMA?
