BCS Poll 2011: Boise State Will Be Left out in BCS Cold Again

Gabe ZaldivarOct 12, 2011

Boise State fans may feel a bit uneasy this weekend. That's only because the BCS standings will be released in a few days, assuring the Broncos will be fuming once again with frustration.

Until Boise State wrestles itself free from the shackles of a lowly conference and decides to go big like TCU, they will have to suffer every year around this time.

Granted, the Broncos recently joined the Mountain West, but they are far too good to be sticking around these guys for very much longer. When the Horned Frogs get to mix it up with the Big 12, the Broncos should explore ways to infuse their program with prestige.

At the moment, they are stuck waiting for losses that will never come. The Broncos are one elite program that does not control its own destiny. They can't expect to move up a rung with every commanding win like Alabama or LSU would.

Their only joy in life comes at the behest of others. We forever tell Boise State to wait in line and we may just get to them. Let the big boys play it out, and if some of them lose, the Broncos may just get in.

I was of the disposition that the Broncos have been treated unfairly, but I am starting to change my thinking. There is just no way to reward Boise State while other programs go through schedules filled with Top 10 landmines a few times a year.

While Boise State cakewalks through the Mountain West, Alabama fights through hungry Top 25 teams like Arkansas and Florida and decimates them.

LSU has just as demanding of a schedule. The fear now is that one of those teams is assured a loss, which will no doubt drop them out of the BCS Top Two for at least a couple of weeks.

Where is the justice in that?

I hate to beat a dead horse, but a playoff system is the only way to solve the conundrum that hits a small-conference school like Boise State every year while also taking care of teams like Alabama and LSU that are assured a loss.

The BCS is set to release their first poll of the season, and we will once again have more questions than answers.

It seems that the only thing the BCS is good for is creating controversy, because it sure isn't solving the issues surrounding the college football postseason.
