Julio Jones Injury: Who Are Best Week 6 Waiver Wire Alternatives?

Zach KruseOct 12, 2011

Atlanta Falcons receiver Julio Jones is out Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, according to head coach Mike Smith.

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted the news:

"

"Falcons coach Mike Smith said WR Julio Jones will not play Sunday versus Carolina due to his hamstring injury."

Before last week's loss to the Green Bay Packers, Jones was emerging as a solid fantasy option at the receiver position. He posted just one catch for 16 yards against the Packers, but he went over 100 yards in consecutive games going into Week 5.

With Jones out on Sunday, owners will have to scramble to find a replacement, either from the bench or the waiver wire.

If you're going to the waiver wire, these players are the best alternatives:

Darius Heyward-Bey, Raiders

DHB is over 200 yards in his last two games, including a score against the Texans last Sunday. He's finally making the most of his opportunities.

James Jones, Packers

He'll always be hit-or-miss in the Packers offense, but he does have two touchdown receptions in the past two weeks. There should be good matchups against the hobbled Rams' secondary, too.

Greg Little, Browns

Little is the starter in Cleveland, which should mean an increase in targets. While he's still a rookie with a young quarterback, the potential is there.

Doug Baldwin, Seahawks

Baldwin is either really hot or really cold, as he has two games over 80 yards and two under 25. You could roll the dice on him hitting the higher portion of the plateau this week.

Steve Breaston, Chiefs

As long as Matt Cassel continues to play well, Breaston will be a fantasy option. That's a risk in itself, but the returns the past two weeks have been encouraging.
