Week 6 Waiver Wire: 4 Wonderful Wide Receivers Worth Wrapping Up

Cedric HopkinsOct 12, 2011

Fantasy football managers are all the same.

Every weekend, the managers who win are eagerly placing a call to the poor guy or girl who they just beat to let them know that they did, in fact, lose—just in case there was any confusion.

I'm here to help you make the call, rather than receive it.

I've put together a list of four wide receivers who should haul in a few passes this weekend and have you smiling at your computer screen as you destroy your opponent.

Jason Avant (WR) Philadelphia Eagles—10 percent owned in Yahoo leagues

The blueprint to stop the Eagles has been drawn up—feverishly blitz Michael Vick. It's taken a while but the offensive coordinator has learned how to beat the blitz—quick passes over the middle.

Enter, Jason Avant.

Over the past two weeks Vick has looked Avant's way on 18 occasions. Avant grabbed 15 of those passes for 208 yards. While he hasn't crossed the chalk line yet, he certainly will have the opportunity soon.

He's considered the poor man's Wes Welker waiver-wire wonder.

Harry Douglas (WR) Atlanta Falcons—one percent owned in Yahoo leagues

Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith announced today that Julio Jones is out for Week 6 versus the Carolina Panthers. Smith also said that they are "hoping that after this week, we'll get him back the following week."

With the Falcons' Week 8 bye, Jones may be out for the next two games.

For Harry Douglas, opportunity knocks.

Las Vegas has this game as the second highest scoring affair this Sunday. There should be plenty of touchdowns to go around.

Douglas will likely move out of the slot where he typically excels. Nevertheless, he's still in line for a large number of targets with Jones out and Roddy White banged up.

In fantasy football, opportunity is everything.

Doug Baldwin (WR) Seattle Seahawks—19 percent owned in Yahoo leagues

Here's a hawk that has flown under the radar this season. Doug Baldwin has racked up 80 yards or more in three of the five games this season. He's averaging more than 60 yards per game and has scored two touchdowns.

Some naysayers may point to the fact that Sidney Rice's return will hurt his value. Not so.

Two of Baldwin's 80-plus yard games occurred with a healthy Rice on the field.

Expect the smallish (5'10" 189 lbs.) Stanford grad to build off his Week 5 performance of 136 yards and a touchdown.

Naaman Roosevelt (WR) Buffalo Bills—zero percent owned in Yahoo leagues

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Donald Jones has been sidelined with a high-ankle sprain. He is projected to miss the next 4-6 weeks.

After Jones went down this past Sunday, the Bills moved fellow wide receiver David Nelson outside and Naaman Roosevelt manned the slot. Roosevelt caught five passes for 41 yards in the second half against the Eagles.

The slot receiver in Chan Gailey's offense is often productive. The Gailey slot receiver maxim remained true based on Roosevelt's performance.

Roosevelt is zero percent owned in Yahoo leagues. Be the first—be rewarded.

Good luck this week!
