Fantasy Football Week 6: Soft Defenses Your Stars Will Exploit

Alex KayOct 12, 2011

With Week 6 of the NFL upon us, it’s time to start looking at some of the better matchups in fantasy football.

We have some real good ones this week, as a number of terrible defenses are going to feebly attempt to stop some powerhouse offenses.

It’s always important to play matchups, and knowing who to start and who to sit against what defense is possibly the best way to win your league.

With that said, if you have players on your roster going against any of the following defenses, definitely start them—and expect a ton of points out of them.

St. Louis Rams

1 of 5

STATS: Pass: 13, Rush: 32, Total: 27

This defense simply gives up points and they drew the toughest team in the NFL this week.

Green Bay is simply going to eviscerate them, and look for Aaron Rodgers and his receiving corps to have a big day against them.

Even crazier, it might actually be time for the Packers’ ground game to put points on the board.

James Starks and Ryan Grant both will have the opportunity to rush on the worst defense in the league. They could actually put up some fantasy points and you should start them this week.

Miami Dolphins

2 of 5

STATS: Pass: 31, Rush: 14, Total: 28

The Jets are in need of a boost after losing three straight games, and believe me, they are going to get it against the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football.

Plaxico Burress and Santonio Holmes are going to have big games, and Mark Sanchez is going to get the confidence boost that the team needs.

Jeremy Kerley is a sleeper in this game, as the Jets recently traded Derrick Mason and promoted Kerley to the No. 3 receiver.

Chicago Bears

3 of 5

STATS: Pass: 27, Rush: 28, Total: 29

The Chicago Bears are known for their defense, and this year, they are going to be remembered for it being terrible.

They look old and slow out there and are simply getting burned far too often.

Minnesota is going to take advantage of this, and they will finally be able to get Donovan McNabb going. Also, I feel that Percy Harvin is going to finally score this week.

Adrian Peterson will put up his usual incredible numbers so expect a big week if you own him.

Buffalo Bills

4 of 5

STATS: Pass: 26, Rush: 29, Total: 30

The Bills are winning games despite their atrocious defense. They have been forcing turnovers at critical moments, and that has been the recipe for success—but they still give up big fantasy numbers.

This week, the Giants will try their luck against them, and I think every regular but Eli Manning on that offense is a safe play.

Ahmad Bradshaw, Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham and Victor Cruz all could potentially go bananas on this defense, but I expect Manning to throw a few picks along with his touchdowns.

New England Patriots

5 of 5

STATS: Pass: 32, Rush: 13, Total: 32

The worst defense in the league is going to get torched by Tony Romo and his dynamic receiving corps on Sunday.

Do I think the Patriots still win the game? Of course, because Tom Brady and his offense are that much better and will find a way to pull out the victory.

But for fantasy purposes?

Romo, Miles Austin and Dez Bryant are all looking at potential career highs in yardage and touchdowns against this terrible secondary.

Look for this game to be a high-scoring barn-burner that is great for fantasy points.
