Week 6 Waiver Wire: 4 Running Backs You Must Grab Now

Kenny ServeraOct 12, 2011

Almost every guy in the world plays fantasy football. Some play it for fun and others are completely obsessed by it (see the FX show The League).

One of the basic rules of fantasy football is to draft a top quality running back (i.e Adrian Peterson or Maurice Jones-Drew).

Without further ado, here is my list of running backs you must grab right now.

Jackie Battle- Kanas City Chiefs

1 of 4

Who?

Before everyone goes in a uproar, hear me out.  With Jamaal Charles out for the year and the ineffective combination of Dexter McCluster and Thomas Jones, Battle has climbed his way up the depth chart to become the starter.

He has never played college ball and was only known to be a special teams player. In last week game against the Indianapolis Colts, he had 19 carries for 119 yards. Before that game, Battle had only rushed for 155 yards in his four-year career. Now the Colts defense is not the best defense in the NFL, but I expect him to get more playing time in the future.

Apparently Matt Cassel fights for his honor during a game.

Ryan Torain- Washington Redskins

The Redskins have a running back problem.

Mike Shannahan is being quiet on who will start against the Philadelphia Eagles (who ironically allows 5.6 yards per carry, 206 total yards per game and seven touchdowns to backs, which equals to the most fantasy points allowed.)

After that beastly performance that Torain put up against the St Louis Rams two weeks ago (19 carries, 135 yards and one touchdown), it is expected that he will get the nod to start against the Eagles.

Monterio Hardesty- Cleveland Browns

3 of 4

Another name you probably won't recognize.

With the trade rumors involving Peyton Hillis (Madden curse strikes again!), it is possible that you will see more of Mr. Hardesty.

I expect him to touch the ball at least 10 to 13 times against a Raiders defense who has allowed the most 20-yard run plays in the league along with 5.3 yards per carry and 194.2 total yards per game to RBs.

Safe to say, this could be a breakout game for Monterio.

This list should be called the list of the unknowns.

With the injury to Joseph Addai, Carter has risen to the top of the depth chart. He scored his first career touchdown against the Chiefs. With that said, they face the Cincinnati Bengals, who are 22nd ranked in allowing fantasy points to running backs this season.

With Peyton Manning still injured, expect Curtis Painter to hand the ball to Carter very frequently.
