NFL Picks Week 6: Which Underdogs Are in Best Positions to Win?

Chris TrapassoOct 12, 2011

Does the underdog label mean anything anymore?

If you look at the 2011 NFL season so far, it hasn't.

Teams picked to lose have come away with stunning victories almost every week.

(Think Seahawks at Giants last Sunday.)

Which underdogs have the best chances to win in Week 6?

Buffalo Bills

The Bills are a team that still isn't getting much love after its 4-1 start—many are saying the Eagles lost the game in Buffalo lost week.

Either way, Bills fans will take it.

The Bills enter their road test against the Giants a little banged up but are facing the 18th-ranked passing defense that was exposed by Tarvaris Jackson and Charlie Whitehurst last week.

They're also allowing 122 yards on the ground per game, so expect a lot of touches for Fred Jackson.

It won't be an easy game for Buffalo, but with all that coupled with the Giants' struggles to run the ball and tendency to turn the football over, the Bills have a legit chance to move to 5-1.

Carolina Panthers

I know all their games have been close against the top-tier teams they've faced and they've come up short each time. I just think eventually Cam Newton and co. will break through for a marquee win.

The Falcons are allowing nearly 295 passing yards a game, and I think the fact that they'll be able to get to Newton will actually hurt them.

Cam is outstanding creating plays outside of the pocket with his legs, and I think he could be in for his best all-around game this week.

Carolina will be in this one late.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings are three-point underdogs on the road in Chicago this week.

They are coming off their most complete performance of the season, and Adrian Peterson has really got the engines revving now.

Chicago's defense has been more susceptible to the big play than we've seen in years past, and I'm wondering if its offensive line will be able to hold up against Jared Allen and the Vikings' physical defensive line.
