Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 6: Jackie Battle and the 5 Intriguing Players

Chris TrapassoOct 12, 2011

The fantasy football waiver wire is the place where good owners become great ones and with the start of bye weeks, you must begin your search for the next diamond in the rough.

There are a handful of guys who are likely free agents in your league right now that are certainly worth an add this week and can be productive for the rest of the season.

Let's take a look...

Jackie Battle, RB Kansas City Chiefs

1 of 5

Jackie who?

Jackie Battle, Jamaal Charles' replacement and running back who rushed for 119 yards on 19 carries against the Colts in Week 5.

With Thomas Jones past his prime and Dexter McCluster too small to take the continual punishment that comes from between-the-tackles running, Battle should be the feature back in Kansas City for the remainder of the season.

The fourth year pro out of Houston is a big back at 6'2'', 238 pounds.

The Chiefs are showing signs of life after their atrocious start to the season and currently are seventh in the NFL in rushing.

Grab him, now.

Jason Campbell, QB Oakland Raiders

2 of 5

Campbell is not going to single-handedly win you any fantasy games this year and doesn't make sense as your starting signal caller if you have an elite guy there already. (You most likely do.)

However, during a bye week Campbell is a better option than you'd think.

He is currently the 12th best fantasy QB according to ESPN.com and plays the Cleveland Browns who are allowing an average of 13 points to quarterbacks in fantasy—not exactly what you'd hope for from your QB, but not horrible either.

We saw that the Raiders can score points through the air and don't necessarily need to lean on Darren McFadden every game to be competitive.

This bodes well for those willing to pick up Campbell.

Cincinnati Bengals Defense

3 of 5

I knew this unit was better than everyone thought entering the year because of how good a defensive mind Mike Zimmer is.

They have given up the least amount of yardage in the NFL to date despite only having mustered one interception and five fumble recoveries.

You can count on Zimmer dialing up an array of blitzes, and his front four game generates constant pressure.

We saw more life out of the Colts offense in the first half last week against the Chiefs, but don't be surprised if Cincinnati stymies Curtis Painter and sacks him a few times.

A good fill-in in Week 6 and a solid unit to have the rest of the year.

Jonathan Dwyer, RB Pittsburgh Steelers

4 of 5

With Rashard Mendenhall still nursing an injury, it looks like Isaac Redman and Dwyer will be the running back committee in Pittsburgh.

Dwyer busted a 76-yard run against the Titans last week, and although he wasn't great on his other 10 carries (only totaled 31 yards), Redman didn't do much to separate himself, either.

I like Dwyer near the goal-line and think he'll receive more carries with Mendenhall out or limited.

Doug Baldwin, WR Seattle Seahawks

5 of 5

Right now, Baldwin looks like the steal of the 2011 un-drafted free agent class.

The former Stanford Cardinal receiver is becoming the most consistent target on the Seahawks roster out of the slot.

He already has three games of 80-plus receiving yards and has scored two touchdowns.

Two of those games have come with Sidney Rice in the lineup, so it's not like he's getting a higher amount of targets because a big name receiver is out.

Baldwin is second on the team in targets and after his big game against the Giants last week, expect that number to only increase.

Yes, Seattle is on a bye in Week 6, but you need to get him now.

A must-add.
