NFL Picks Week 6: New England Patriots and 3 Big Favorites That Will Cover

Zachary D. RymerOct 12, 2011

If there's one thing you never want to do, it's put too much faith in an NFL team that is favored to win by more than seven points. It's true what they say about anything being able to happen on any given Sunday, and these things can end up costing you if your faith is misplaced.

With these words of warning out of the way, I will now direct you towards three big favorites that are as trustworthy as they come in Week 6. The spreads may be large, but the teams they favor are going to have no trouble covering them.

Trust me.

Note: All spreads from Bodog.

Miami Dolphins at New York Jets (-7)

The Jets are in a bad place right now. They've lost three in a row, and the franchise itself seems to be crumbling before our very eyes.

Here come the Dolphins to the rescue. The 0-4 Dolphins are going to pay a visit to MetLife Stadium for a Monday night game, and the oddsmakers think the Jets are going to have things pretty well in hand.

So do I. In fact, I think the Dolphins have virtually no shot of winning this game. They are utterly hopeless on both sides of the ball, and the Jets are not as bad as their 2-3 record (and the media) would have you believe.

Will the Jets cover? Absolutely. And if you ask me, it's going to be a blowout.

Dallas Cowboys at New England Patriots (-7.5)

The Patriots have rebounded nicely from their loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 3, winning two straight against the Oakland Raiders and the Jets.

Up next are the Dallas Cowboys, who should be more than ready to face the Pats after taking a breather in Week 5. Hopefully, they also used that time to figure out a way to stop Tom Brady, Wes Welker and the rest of New England's offense.

That, for the record, cannot be done. The Pats have won four games by at least nine points, and I fully expect that trend to continue against the Cowboys. They should have no trouble covering the 7.5-point spread.

St. Louis Rams at Green Bay Packers (-15.5)

For a second there, it looked like the Packers were going to lose on Sunday night.

But only for a second. After an early scare, the Packers ended up dominating the Atlanta Falcons, and they now get to face the St. Louis Rams with a chance to go 6-0.

The Packers won't fail to capitalize on this chance. While they're at it, they'll make life even worse for the Rams. The Packers won by 26 points the last time they played at home, and I expect a similar stomping at Lambeau Field on Sunday.
