Samba Magicians in the Bundesliga: Part One

Samrin HasibDec 4, 2008

This week, I am going to introduce you to five Brazilian talents in the Bundesliga. These Brazilians are not Robinho and may not be able to produce the same magic as Robinho, yet they are as important to their clubs as Robinho is to Man City.

I would like the readers (especially if they follow the Bundesliga) to vote for the one they think is the best of the five. The one with the highest votes will be competing with the winner of Part Two of "The Samba Flavour in the Bundesliga."

1. Ze Roberto

He is the Brazilian who just seems to get better with age. At 33 years of age, he plays as a central midfielder for Bayern. He can score vital goals when required. In 1998, he won the Champions League with Real Madrid. He also played a part in the Brazilian national side which claimed the Copa America and Confederations Cup in 1997.

2. Grafite

He is a 29-year-old striker who plays for Wolfsburg. Grafite has been sensational for "the Wolves" this season. Wolfsburg require only a point to qualify for the last 32 in the Uefa Cup. They play Portsmouth next who must win to qualify for the last 32.

Grafite has vast experience playing in Serie A in his homeland, Brazil. He has only one international appearance under his belt though. In 11 matches for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, Grafite has already found the back of the net 11 times.

3. Cicero

Cicero is currently playing for Hertha Berlin. He is a 24-year-old midfielder who is really finding his feet this season. The capital club of Germany were never considered as title challengers—until this season. They lie fourth in the table at the moment courtesy of Cicero who has five goals to his name this season in 15 appearances.

4. Henrique

The defender agreed to terms with Barcelona in June 2008 and was loaned out to Leverkuesen. He hasn't scored in the Bundesliga as of yet but has made 15 appearances for the club. Bayer's defence has been one of the best in the Bundesliga this season. This is enough to prove Henrique's qualities.

5. Felipe Santana

He is a 22-year-old defender who plays for Borussia Dortmund. He is used as a substitute currently. The thing that amazed me was Santana's goal to game ratio. He has scored thrice in four appearances for Dortmund.

Well, that's about it. If I had to choose, it would definitely be Ze Roberto. Part Two will come out next week.
