NFL Power Rankings Week 6: Oakland Raiders and 3 Teams That Will Keep Rising

Zachary D. RymerOct 12, 2011

Rise and rise again, until Rams become Lions.

That's not quite how the saying goes, but it's not a bad way to characterize my Week 6 power rankings. It's a mad scene, with the previously hapless Detroit Lions on one end and the St. Louis Rams on the other. They and the other 30 teams in the league will be jockeying for position for the rest of the season.

This coming weekend, there are three teams in particular that I think are going to be moving up the ranks when we get to Week 7.

Cincinnati Bengals (No. 14)

I'm not entirely sure how they've done it, but the Bengals are 3-2 and threatening to steal the thunder of the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North.

The Bengals should have no trouble keeping pace this coming Sunday. They get to host the 0-5 Indianapolis Colts, which is the closest thing to an automatic win there is at the moment.

Don't worry, Bengals fans. Your team won't mess this one up.

Oakland Raiders (No. 9)

For the first time in years, the Raiders are actually looking like a legitimate threat to win the AFC West. They made that abundantly clear by beating the Texans in Houston on Sunday.

Sunday will bring a much easier opponent, as the 2-2 Cleveland Browns will pay a visit to the Black Hole. The Browns are not an awful team, but they're not a good team either. It's certainly worth noting that the only teams they've beaten this year have a combined record of 0-9.

It may not be pretty, but I foresee the Raiders moving to 4-2 this weekend.

Washington Redskins (No. 8)

While I'm not entirely sure what to make of the Redskins, I do think they are the best team in the NFC East at the moment. I don't know if things will stay that way, but no doubt Redskins fans are happy for the time being.

On Sunday, the Redskins will square off against the Philadelphia Eagles, formerly known as a "Dream Team." As we all know, the Eagles are 1-4, and have problems doing pretty much everything.

Making matters worse is the fact that the Redskins have had an extra week to rest and to prepare for the Eagles. They should have little trouble running Philly's record to 1-5.
