WWE Survivor Series Preview: Madison Square Garden Will Be Electrified
When I heard Rock and John Cena were scheduled to team up at Survivor Series, I thought that was crazy. I preferred Team Rock vs. Team Cena. For me, Rock's in-ring return makes it a must-buy, regardless of the circumstances.
For those of you familiar with my work, I often like to write fantasy pay-per-views. This is how I want to see Survivor Series shake out, within the parameters of realistic outcomes.
Now, they will face Miz and R-Truth. There are some other marquee matches outside of the Rock and Cena match. CM Punk facing Alberto Del Rio could be a classic. Even Mark Henry and Big Show put on a decent match at Vengeance. Here is my preview of what I want to see at Survivor Series.
Daniel Bryan (C) vs. Wade Barrett for the Money in the Bank Briefcase
1 of 8This match opens the 25th installment of Survivor Series in Madison Square Garden.
I was surprised Daniel Bryan won Money in the Bank. I am even more surprised Daniel Bryan still has the briefcase. I thought Bryan was going to drop the briefcase to Cody Rhodes or Wade Barrett.
Wade Barrett is a man who has fallen from grace. Barrett goes from headlining several pay-per-views in 2010 to wrestling on Superstars in 2011. He needs something to get himself back on track. That briefcase is the ideal way to reestablish himself as a main event player.
Bryan has also been obscure since he won Money in the Bank. If WWE keeps the briefcase on him, it appears they are going for the underdog angle with the former Ring of Honor legend.
They are currently embroiled in a feud right now. Barrett has had Bryan's number as of late, defeating him at Summerslam and at a dark match at Vengeance. This trend continues as Barrett takes Bryan's Money in the Bank briefcase after a Wasteland.
Winner (and new Mr. Money in the Bank): Wade Barrett
Estimated Match Time: 20 minutes
Beth Phoenix (C) vs. Maryse for the Divas Championship
2 of 8I am really sick and tired of this whole Barbies vs. Divas of Doom angle. If the angle is to continue, it should at least continue with different Barbies.
Maryse can be the next challenger to Beth's title. She is already insanely popular with the fans as that mean girl. She is the Quebec version of Regina George in Mean Girls.
Sadly for all the Mean Girls fans, Maryse will be a victim of a Glam Slam.
Winner (and still champion): Beth Phoenix
Estimated Match Time: seven minutes
Rock Interview with Michael Cole
3 of 8Why not? Rock can cut a promo about tonight's main event while owning Michael Cole as usual. Here's another one, if you are interested.
Mark Henry (C) vs. Big Show in a No Holds Barred Match
4 of 8Mark Henry's work as of late has been incredible. Henry is finally redeeming himself after 16 years of underachieving. He is certainly WWE's top heel right now.
After that no-contest ending at Vengeance, I expect these two to have another match at Survivor Series. I will make this a No Holds Barred stipulation to make it watchable.
I expect this match to be a hidden gem, given the relatively low expectations of the match. I expect the World's Strongest Man's reign of terror to continue, with no end in sight.
Winner (and still champion): Mark Henry
Estimated Match Time: 15 minutes
After the match, Mark Henry continues to beat down on Big Show. Kane makes his awaited return to save the overgrown, 500-pound bag of monkey crap from joining the Hall of Pain a second time.
Team Orton vs. Team Rhodes in a 5-on-5 Elimination Tag Match
5 of 8Here Comes the Boom by Nelly would be the ideal theme song for Air Boom, just saying. Air Boom will join Randy Orton, Sheamus and Zack Ryder to fight Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Christian, Cody Rhodes and Brodus Clay.
Giving a powerhouse like Clay a sizable push is what WWE may need to do. Fellow giants Mark Henry, Big Show and Kane are not going to stick around forever. I chose Zack Ryder over Mason Ryan and John Morrison mainly because the MSG crowd might be excited to see Ryder in action.
This match should be excellent given the quality of talent in that ring. Randy Orton finishes things off with an RKO on Dolph Ziggler.
Winner: Team Orton
Estimated Match Time: 25 minutes
Alberto Del Rio (C) vs. CM Punk for the WWE Championship
6 of 8Alberto Del Rio will defend his title against CM Punk at Survivor Series. It makes a lot of sense. What doesn't make sense is John Laurinaitis being on TV every waking moment.
Destiny has had a love/hate relationship with both Del Rio and CM Punk. Del Rio has had plenty of ups and downs in 2011. CM Punk is a man who completely changed his destiny after that spectacular promo. He went from definitely leaving WWE to becoming the next face of the company.
These two should put on a fantastic match. Punk and Del Rio have had solid matches on Raw. I expect a gem between these two. Del Rio makes Punk submit to the arm bar after John Laurinaitis "accidentally" interferes.
Winner (and still champion): Alberto Del Rio
Estimated Match Time: 25 minutes
Rock and John Cena vs. Miz and R-Truth with Mick Foley as Guest Referee
7 of 8This match surprised me a bit. I thought Rock and Cena were going to be part of a 5-man team. Now, they team up to face Miz and R-Truth in the main event of Survivor Series. Rock's in-ring return makes this a must-buy, regardless of who he is facing.
Cena and Rock will have friction, no doubt about that. Miz and R-Truth might be the more cohesive team. However, there is no way Cena and Rock will lose to Miz and R-Truth, barring interference or a mix up.
Cena hits the Attitude Adjustment for the Miz. Then he tags in Rock to hit the People's Elbow. Mick Foley counts to three to win it for the good guys.
Winner: John Cena and Rock
Estimated Match Time: 20 minutes
Fallout from Survivor Series
8 of 8The lack of roster depth is apparent in this preview. I couldn't make a seventh match without sacrificing the 5-on-5 elimination match. Each match needs to be focused on quality and length. Those two things are not always synonymous.
Raw
Alberto Del Rio goes on to feud with John Cena and CM Punk for the WWE Championship at TLC in a ladder or TLC match.
Smackdown
Mark Henry, Sheamus and Kane feud for the World Heavyweight Championship at TLC in an unprecedented triple threat tables match.
I expect Sheamus to go on to win the title at TLC or Royal Rumble. Then he will lose it to Wade Barrett at Elimination Chamber, when Barrett cashes the briefcase in after Sheamus survives the chamber.
As for Daniel Bryan, perhaps he can surprise everyone and win the Royal Rumble. Then he can go on to face Wade Barrett at WrestleMania for the World Heavyweight Championship. He could also face CM Punk for the WWE Championship at the grand spectacle. Those two stories write themselves.
Thanks for reading!
