BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications

Both of these teams are eying BCS Bowl berths, and only one will leave this game with those hopes still intact. Both teams already have one loss and could not afford a second.

ASU has the most to gain. A win on the road would catapult their standing in the eyes of the voters. Oregon is still just waiting for teams in front of them to lose. They are the highest ranked team with one loss, and they are not going to move up until some of the undefeated teams start losing.

Key Storyline: How will Oregon deal with the loss of LaMichael James

Oregon's dynamic offense suffered a huge setback when they lost James last week. He is the focal point of their ferocious running attack.

They had no problem dealing with his loss last week against Cal, but it can be harder to deal with a loss like this when it is for a whole game.

What They're Saying: ESPN discusses the absence of LaMichael James:

"

The nation's leading rusher at 170.4 yards per game, however, feels Oregon will be fine without him.

"Even if I don't play, we have tremendous backs," James said. "I don't think we'll miss a beat."

James was limited to 94 yards rushing and one score in last year's 42-31 win at Arizona State (5-1, 3-0). He gained 150 yards on the ground with three first-half touchdowns two years ago in a 44-21 home win.

"He's a great player," Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson said. "He might be one of the best players in the country. There is no question about that."

James ran for 239 yards and a touchdown against California, becoming the first Duck to run for at least 200 yards in three straight games. Running backs coach Gary Campbell said Monday that James is in "good spirits."

If James can't start, Kenjon Barner or De'Anthony Thomas could get the nod. Barner carried 10 times for 88 yards and a score against Cal, while Thomas, a freshman, is averaging 7.6 yards per carry.

"

Player to Watch Arizona State: QB Brock Osweiler

Osweiler is having a tremendous season. He is completing over 66 percent of his passes. He has thrown for 1,677 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Osweiler has all the tools to be an NFL QB. He is big and can make all the throws.

Player to Watch Oregon: QB Darron Thomas

With or without LaMichael James Oregon is still going to be a run first team. However is absence will mean that Thomas is going to have to assume a larger role.

Thomas is having a solid year. Especially when it counts. Thomas has 15 touchdowns and just two interceptions.

Key Matchup: ASU's Defense vs. Oregon's Speed Attack

This is the key matchup in any game Oregon plays. Their rapid fire attack is incredibly hard to prepare for.

The key is stopping this team on first down and forcing them into passing situations. This will lead to getting Oregon's offense off the field, and that is a huge key.

Oregon commonly blows teams out in the second half because their defense is exhausted.

Prediction: Oregon 42, Arizona State 32
