Texas A&M Football Recruiting: Aggies Add Juco Linebacker

It is no secret that the Texas A&M Football team has had some issues at inside linebacker this season. The Aggies have tried to address that need through recruiting.

The Ags received a verbal commitment from Blinn ILB Eddie Porter 6'3", 240 lbs. Porter is a second-year player at Blinn who plans on enrolling at A&M in January.

Porter is listed as running a 4.71 in the 40 which is good speed for an inside linebacker. He also boasts a 500-pound squat and a 300-pound clean.

A&M will need to be more physical on the interior in the Southeastern Conference. Adding Porter to the lineup should give the Aggies coaches some options on the inside to go along with Jordan Richmond, Jonathan Stewart, Donnie Baggs and Stephen Jenkins.

If Porter is able to enroll in the spring, he will participate in spring practice and will be able to compete for a starting job right away.

This gives the Aggies their third verbal commitment from Blinn in the 2012 class, as Logan David and Marion Grice both committed previously. There is some discussion going on about whether Grice is fully committed or wants to talk it over with his family before making anything official.

The addition of Porter indicates that the Aggies are done in the Dalton Santos sweepstakes. Santos is a high school linebacker from Van, TX who committed to Tennessee earlier this fall.

Expect the Aggies to add a couple more junior college players to this recruiting class. They are looking at defensive linemen who can help them immediately in the SEC.

The Aggies need to add size to be able to match up in the more run oriented league. A couple of junior college defensive linemen could help fill that need immediately.

If Logan David is able to qualify out of Blinn, it will go a long way towards addressing any concerns on the defensive line.

Porter is the 23rd commit to the Aggies' 2012 recruiting class.
