BCS Rankings 2011: Alabama and Oklahoma Will Push LSU to No. 3 in Rankings

While it looked as though LSU would take the top spot in the initial BCS rankings, Oklahoma and Alabama have asserted themselves as the top-two teams in the nation.

LSU and Alabama are cut out of the same cloth. Both put forth dominant SEC defenses and have the ability to score points early. The fact of the matter is, Alabama's just a little bit better.

The Crimson Tide have the No. 1 defense in the entire nation. Despite playing three ranked teams thus far, Alabama has allowed an absurd 7.0 points a game. LSU has a very good defense—no team is better than Alabama on the defensive side of the ball.

Luckily, we get to see these teams square off in what is sure to be an epic SEC battle on Nov. 5. That matchup may not only decide who takes the conference, but could ultimately determine who gets a place in the national championship.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we'll be seeing the two come into the matchup as the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the nation. Oklahoma is undefeated, and after their 55-17 shellacking, it's clear that they are the team we all thought they were before the season started.

Oklahoma has all the makings of being a national championship team. Landry Jones is a top-notch quarterback, and they rank in the top 10 in both points allowed and points for.

The Sooners have a challenging Big 12 schedule in front of them, but after last week, it looks like they are going to handle it with ease.

LSU, Alabama, Boise St., Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Stanford have a shot at running the table en route to a national championship. While all of the aforementioned teams are phenomenal, Alabama and Oklahoma are the cream of the crop.

The BCS is a flawed system. Hopefully, by the time we're ready for the BCS Title Game, we aren't debating over which undefeated juggernauts and better than the others.

LSU is overflowing with talent, and they've already obtained multiple signature wins, but it doesn't set them apart enough to be one of the top-two teams in the nation when the BCS rankings drop.
