NFL Power Rankings Week 6: What Are the Experts Saying?

Chris TrapassoOct 11, 2011

The "experts" at ESPN have released their Week 6 NFL Power Rankings, and for me, there's only one thing to do: critique the list.

The Packers are the unanimous No. 1 team in the league right now, but after that, there's a lot of debate on 2-32.

To begin, they have the Patriots at No. 2 a spot ahead of the New Orleans Saints.

Now, this is nit-picking (something you have to do if you're as big of a sports nerd as I am to analyze power rankings), but which team lost to the Packers?

That's right, the Saints.

Nothing against the Buffalo Bills (who beat New England and have quality wins over the Raiders and Eagles).

Losing to Green Bay on the goal-line, on the road shouldn't be a slight to a team at this point in the season. I just think the Packers have been more impressive against better competition so far, and yes, their three-point win over the Panthers in Carolina was impressive to me.

Cam Newton has his team playing hard every week.

Next is the Lions, then the Ravens, Bills, Chargers and Steelers.

Is San Diego that good?

Sure, Chargers fans will take their team finally getting out to a fast start, but they haven't dominated any of the inferior opponents they've faced thus far.

Despite their 3-2 record, I think Pittsburgh is back on track and will contend with the Ravens for the AFC North crowd.

The 49ers and Redskins round out the Top 10, leaving the Raiders at No. 11.

Flip-flop the 'Skins and Raiders.

Oakland is far more talented on both sides of the ball, and beating the Texans on the road without a huge day from Darren McFadden is no easy task.

I guess if they can finally win two straight next week against the Browns at home, they'll get their deserved respect.

Washington has been a pleasant surprise without a doubt, yet two of their three wins have come against the Cardinals and the Rams.

The Texans, Titans and Giants all lost in Week 5 and belong in spots 12-15, with the Cowboys nipping at their heels.

Can't wait for the Cowboys' showdown with the Patriots in Foxboro next week.

Tony Romo's got a chance to make a huge statement for his club.

The Jets and the Bears, teams that lost in their respective conference title games last season, are both 2-3 and have offenses that have been very disappointing to start the year.

Shows how a shaky offensive line can hinder production.

The Cincinnati Bengals round out the Top 20, and to me, could have been higher. All three of their wins are fourth quarter comebacks, and their defense is far better than we all were expecting.

The rest of the teams don't look to have much promise within their own division, but I do like what I've seen from Cam Newton as a pure playmaker, the Chiefs after their wretched start to the season and obviously, Adrian Peterson
