Brock Lesnar, Alistair Overeem and the 9 Hardest-Hitting Heavyweights in the UFC

G DOct 11, 2011

Ever since the UFC Heavy Division came to be, it's been criticized for not living up to par with the rest of the organization's weight classes.

Now, more than ever, the 265-pound weight class has been proclaimed as the worst division in the UFC today.

While the Heavyweight division doesn't consist of the fastest, or the most well-rounded fighters, they do have some of the hardest hitters in the UFC today.

The following slides display the nine heaviest hitters in the Heavyweight division today.

Lets take a look.

Junior Dos Santos

1 of 9

Since entering the UFC, Junior Dos Santos has posted a perfect 7-0 record and currently awaits his title fight against Cain Velasquez at UFC on Fox 1.

It's not so much Dos Santos' record that's overly impressive, but the way he finishes his fights.

Of his 13 career victories, Dos Santos has been victorious by knockout eight times.

Dos Santos has used his heavy hands to knockout opponents in Fabricio Werdum, Stefan Struve, Gilbert Yvel and Gabriel Gonzaga.

Shane Carwin

2 of 9

Despite losing two consecutive fights, Shane Carwin remains one of the hardest-hitting Heavyweights in the UFC today.

Since entering the UFC, Carwin has won four fights, all coming by way of knockout.

Not only has Carwin shown the world how hard he can hit, but all four of his knockouts have come in the very first round of action.

Carwin has knocked out Christian Wellisch, Neil Wain, Gabriel Gonzaga and Frank Mir.

Brendan Schaub

3 of 9

Brendan "The Hybrid" Schaub is one of the most electrifying fighters in the 265-pound weight class.

He's also one of the hardest hitters, as he's knocked out seven of his opponents in only 10 career MMA fights.

Heavy-hitter Schaub is most recognized for demolishing opponents such as Chase Gormley, Gabriel Gonzaga and Mirko Cro Cop.

Brock Lesnar

4 of 9

While Brock Lesnar isn't an elite knockout artist, it doesn't stop him from being one of the hardest hitters in the UFC today.

Lesnar's vicious punches and strikes have led him to victories over UFC Hall of Famer, Randy Couture and Frank Mir.

Lesnar is arguably the heaviest hitter in the Heavyweight division today.

Pat Barry

5 of 9

While Pat Barry is primarily known for his exceptional kickboxing skills, he's also one of the hardest hitters in MMA.

Barry's heavy hitting was first recognized in his Fight of the Night victory over Antoni Hardonk at UFC 104 in L.A.

And, despite being knocked out, "HD" Barry displayed his heavy hands in a recent bout against Cheick Kongo where he knocked Kongo down two times in the very first round.

Cain Velasquez

6 of 9

Cain Velasquez, the current UFC Heavyweight champion has never lost a fight in his MMA career.

In fact, Velasquez has yet to be tested as he's posted a perfect 9-0 record with eight of his bouts coming by way of knockout.

Velasquez's vicious strikes have allowed him to be victorious over opponents such as Brock Lesnar, Antonio Nogueira and Cheick Kongo.

Cheick Kongo

7 of 9

Despite being an inconsistent Heavyweight fighter, Cheick Kongo remains one of the hardest hitters in the 265-pound weight class today.

While Kongo has lost two of his last four fights not including a draw, he's been consistent in knocking out his opponents to make up for his defeats.

Of Kongo's 21 career victories, 12 of them have come by knockout.

Alistair Overeem

8 of 9

While Alistair Overeem has never even stepped foot inside a UFC Octagon, he is in fact one of the hardest hitters in the organization today.

Overeem is one of the most well-rounded fighters in MMA today as he's displayed an eye-opening 19 wins by submission.

But, it's Overeem's ability to knockout his opponents that has made him famous. Overeem will get the chance to prove he is one of the hardest hitters when he takes on Brock Lesnar at UFC 141.

Matt Mitrione

9 of 9

Despite only having fought in five career MMA fights, Matt Mitrione has shown UFC fans he's no one to mess with in the stand up.

Having bombs for hands, Mitrione has won all five of his fights with four of them coming by knockout.

Mitrione has used his heavy hitting in wins over Marcus Jones, Kimbo Slice, Tim Hague and Christian Morecraft.
