NFL Power Rankings: Indianapolis Colts and the 3 Hopeless Teams

Chris TrapassoOct 11, 2011

NFL Power Rankings for Week 6 are slowly being rolled out today, and for as many surprising teams that are soaring up everyone's list, there are still a group of clubs that seemingly have no hope this season.

Which teams are they?

My three "hopeless" teams...

Indianapolis Colts

In the first half against the Kansas City Chiefs, Indianapolis looked like the Colts of old.

Receivers were wide open down the field, the quarterback was delivering perfect strikes, and the defense was doing enough to allow the offense to get out to a 24-7 lead.

Then, we were reminded that Curtis Painter isn't Peyton Manning, and the defense isn't that good.

Matt Cassel finished the day with four touchdown passes with no interceptions, while Dwayne Bowe and unknown runner Jackie Battle each had 100-yard days.

The offense went stagnant.

If they can't win at home against Kansas City when leading by 17 points twice, then when can the Colts win?

Miami Dolphins

Maybe the bye week is exactly what the Dolphins needed.

Because before they had the weekend off, they weren't doing it much of anything offensively, and their supposed "Top 10" defense was allowing 307 passing yards a game. (Thanks, Tom Brady.)

Chad Henne is done for the year and Matt Moore steps in—is that good or bad for the Dolphins?

I'm not sure, but if they can't stop their opponents and win at home, where does the hope lie?

Jacksonville Jaguars

This isn't a slight to Blaine Gabbert, the rookie starter in Jacksonville, because I think he will be a solid pro in the future.

It's just that the Jaguars have very limited explosiveness (outside of bull-dozing Maurice Jones-Drew) and their defense is lacking any real impact players.

The schedule doesn't help either.

Their next three games: at Pittsburgh, vs. Baltimore, at Houston. They also have San Diego, Tampa Bay and Atlanta left.

Yikes.
