Green Bay Packers: How Long Can They Stay Undefeated?

J FOct 11, 2011

When taking a look at the Green Bay Packers' remaining schedule, it's hard to see any of their upcoming opponents ruining their undefeated season.

But, just as no person is perfect, no NFL team is perfect.

Even the flawless 2007 New England Patriots were finally taken down by the underdog New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII.

The Packers have a shot to go 19-0 with the team they've built, but I don't believe it is a realistic possibility.

Their winning streak currently stands at 11, but how long can such success continue?

Easy Road to 7-0?

1 of 4

After hosting the winless Rams in Week 6, the Green Bay Packers will face a fairly easy road test in the 1-4 Minnesota Vikings.

Mike McCarthy may be smart to just let Matt Flynn handle these two teams, boasting a combined record of 1-8.

In all seriousness, the Packers better beware of overconfidence and arrogance, or they may face an embarrassing first loss.

If they can stay focused, 7-0 is a pretty solid guarantee.

Trip to San Diego

2 of 4

The Pack's pass defense is 30th in the NFL, and the 4-1 Chargers are sixth in the league in passing, thanks to their star quarterback Philip Rivers.

The good thing for Green Bay is that it'll have a full two weeks to prepare for the trip to San Diego, with the team's bye coming in Week 8.

It will be their first real test, but look for the Packers to reach 8-0.

Detroit Lions

3 of 4

The only other undefeated team in the NFL is none other than the Detroit Lions, a division rival that the Packers haven't had to worry much about in recent years.

However, the last time these two teams met, Green Bay lost an ugly 7-3 game after Aaron Rodgers departed with a concussion.

The Packers will travel to Ford Field to take on the Lions on Thanksgiving. If Detroit can get past the 49ers in Week 6, they may also have a good shot at an unblemished record when this matchup rolls around.

Green Bay's secondary had a shaky start to the season, but it's been improving week by week. If it's not ready for Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson, the Detroit Lions may be the team to put an end to the Pack's impressive run.

Health Concerns

4 of 4

The loss of Nick Collins was painful, yet the Packers haven't seemed to lose a step.

Even after Bryan Bulaga and Chad Clifton went down with injury, the offensive line has held strong, allowing Aaron Rodgers to continue his MVP season.

But injuries add up, even for a deep team like Green Bay. Another big loss on defense would be detrimental, and what would happen if Rodgers suffers another concussion?

With the way they are rolling now, health concerns appear to be the only obstacle in the way of a perfect season for the Pack.
