US Men vs. Ecuador: Jurgen Klinsmann Will Finally Lead US to a Good Performance

Richard LangfordOct 11, 2011

The US men's soccer team will turn its signs of promise into results against Ecuador.

This will be Jurgen Klinsmann's fourth match as coach of the US squad, and the first four left a lot to be desired. However, they are improving, and they are coming off of their first victory under Klinsmann.

That was a 1-0 win over Honduras.

Early Failures for Klinsmann

The clear and most damning failure for this US squad has been the anemic offense. This offense was struggling before Klinsmann arrived and it has only gotten worse since.

In his first match, they drew a depleted Mexican side 1-1. Then they played two straight 1-0 defeats to Costa Rica and Belgium.

Their last time on the pitch was the 1-0 victory over Honduras. For those of you counting at home, that is two goals in four matches.

That is not good.

Signs of Improvement

The US is growing in patience. Klinsmann is preaching possession, and the team is starting to get it.

This team is beginning to control the ball. This is leading to better looks for the offense and less stress on the defense.

The US is starting to look more natural in this style of attack.

Match Prediction

The US will continue to grow. They will build on their modest success from the last game. They will control the possession and turn that it into some good looks on goal.

They will explode for two goals in this one.

While that would be nothing to write home about for many teams, it will be a great sign for this squad.

US wins 2-0.
