Mitch's Week 15 College Football Picks Part Three

Mitch WilsonDec 3, 2008

The season is coming to an end with the final week almost here. As we have seen these past few weeks, there are some emotions stirring around fans, players and coaches as seniors say goodbye to college football.

It has been a fun season picking over 400 games, and I look forward to continuing this fun during bowl season, and having a free picking contest that runs from start to finish of bowl season.

While I did receive a few e-mails this week regarding people not receiving the sheet for the picking contest, we decided to not have it this week because of the limited amount of games. Instead, we decided to add another tier of prizes to the bowl contest.

While I enjoy bowl season, it has lost a lot of luster since conference tie-ins took over creating predictable match-ups and in a lot of cases, rematches of prior years games.

I am going to have time during the next few weeks to write about things like this and a series of articles that I have been planning on writing I hope to compile into my second book this year, if I can get it all finished with all of the other projects on the table.

In any event let's get to the games this week as we are more than half way through picking every game on the board for this week.

Rutgers -10 Vs. Louisville (Thursday 12/4/08, 7:30 EST) 6 out of 10

The last time I was in Las Vegas and Rutgers was playing on a Thursday night, I was on the Scarlet Knights and paid dearly for it as they were whooped by North Carolina.

While that was back in early September, a lot has changed and Coach Schiano has appeared to have righted things in Piscataway. Louisville on the other hand looks as lost as they have since Bobby Petrino skipped town two years ago.

While around mid-season the Cardinals looked like they finally figured things out, those thoughts were quickly squelched as Louisville went on the road and lost outright to Syracuse, and has now lost four straight total.

While the last three have been to the top three teams in the Big East, the Cards haven't even been competitive in those games and come into this game at 5-6 overall. Rutgers on the other hand has won five games in a row and come in at 6-5 with a chance to finish with a very solid 7-5 record and a bowl game.

Louisville enters this game at 4-6 against the spread this season while Rutgers is 6-4 against the number. Louisville is 0-4 against the spread in their last four, all of which have been conference games.

The Cardinals are also just 1-4 against the spread when they've played a team with a winning record. Rutgers has covered their last four times out and are 5-1 against the spread in their last six conference games.

Rutgers is also 5-1 against the spread in their last six home games when playing a team with a losing record. These are both teams on streaks and I look for all of the current streaks to continue in this one as Rutgers wins and covers once again.
