Tim Tebow: Is Denver Broncos QB the Future of the Franchise or Just a Band-Aid?

Tom EdringtonOct 11, 2011

On Tuesday, the Denver Broncos blurted the four words that Mile High fans have longed for.

Tim Tebow will start.

That's the news, but it really isn't news. This one falls in the John Fox Had No Choice category. Basically, Kyle Orton named Tebow the new starter by playing so horribly that no one in his or her right mind would send him back out there.

Now we must set the stage for you.

The Broncos have a bye week, and Fox will put his team into what amounts to a week-and-a-half training camp atmosphere to install Tebow.

The timing is perfect, as the next game is at Miami, and lo-and-behold the Dolphins have guaranteed they'll fill Sun Life Stadium with Tebow supporters, as they decided to honor the University of Florida's 2009 national championship team at halftime.

Nothing says go out and get the Tebow fans like honoring him and his college cohorts.

Good news for the Dolphins is that this one may be a sellout.

Bad news is that the whole damn place will cheer for Tebow.

Sorry 'bout that, Tony Sparano.

Now that Fox has crossed the Rubicon, there's no turning back. The worst thing for the Broncos would be some Teaberry shuffle where it's Tebow, then Orton, with perhaps a sprinkle of Brady Quinn thrown in just to really muck things up.

No, it has to be Tebow's show now. It's his ship to drive. It's sink or swim for the first-round pick. Time to make the final decision as to his Denver future.

The team has to give him the full tilt of remaining games, all 11, to either flounder or flourish.

Time to find out about the future of the franchise. Long-term solution or just a Band-Aid? It's Tebow's time.

What further adds to the intrigue is that the Dolphins were trying to trade for Orton before training camp. Nothing speaks of desperation like wanting Kyle Orton.

Now Orton will watch from the bench, a move that will surely cut down on his interception rate.

His turn to watch Tebow, along with everyone else.

Time for St. Timothy to show his stuff.
