BCS Rankings 2011: Kansas State Wildcats and 3 Undefeated Teams That Won't Last
The first 2011 BCS rankings are set to be announced on Sunday after Week 7 gameplay, and the current 13 undefeated teams in the AP Top 25 are going to get a lot of love.
The BCS loves winners, which is why these undefeated teams might be higher than they deserve to be.
Easy early schedules have greatly benefited a number of teams, and it's only a matter of time before they fall off the wayside.
Here are three undefeated teams that will fizzle out of the rankings before you know it.
Kansas State Wildcats
The Wildcats are 5-0 and No. 17 in the AP Poll right now, and there is no doubt they'll have a good ranking when the BCS comes out. They should be 6-0 since they play Texas Tech this weekend.
However, the Wildcats are one of those teams who are shining bright right now because of an easy schedule. The had a great boost in the polls because they beat an overrated Baylor team, and come November we'll see who this team really is.
Kansas State has a rough stretch where it has to play Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Texas. They'll be lucky if they win at least one of those games.
The Wildcats will continue to climb the rankings in October because of an easy schedule, but they will eventually drop and be forgotten.
Illinois Fighting Illini
Currently 6-0 and ranked No. 16 in the country, the Fighting Illini will inevitably choke before the season is over. It's a surprise to a lot of people that Illinois is undefeated right now, but since the Fighting Illini started the year off with five straight home games it's not that difficult to see why.
The only road game Illinois has had was last week at Indiana, which was obviously no test at all. Give credit to their athletic director because the only road test Illinois has is at Penn State.
However, the Fighting Illini will fall to Michigan and Wisconsin late in the year, and don't be surprised at all if they lose this weekend against Ohio State.
Struggling against Western Michigan and Northwestern is proof the Fighting Illini can't cut it as a top team this year. They'll crack under pressure and choke the season away.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
The Yellow Jackets are 6-0 right now and No. 12 in the country. There is a strong possibility they could be in the Top 10 when the BCS rankings come out, but they will eventually disappoint.
Georgia Tech has yet to face a quality opponent this season, and once again the only tough out-of-conference opponent they have to face is Georgia at the end of the year.
The Yellow Jackets struggled against North Carolina and Maryland, which proves they aren't a true elite team.
In the coming weeks, Georgia Tech will be exposed by Clemson, Virginia Tech and Georgia. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if they fall to Miami since that is their toughest road game this season.
