Fantasy Football Week 6 Waiver Wire: Pick Up Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow

Eric BallOct 11, 2011

Tim Tebow is going to be fantasy gold.

Before you become engulfed in rage over the previous statement knowing he only completed three passes for positive yardage on Sunday, hear me out.

In one half of football he completed 4-of-10 passes for 71 yards and a touchdown.

Obviously nothing to get excited about.

Yet when you add 38 yards rushing and another TD on the ground, Tebow scored 16 points in ESPN standard scoring leagues.

That is great production, especially against a defense in the Chargers that is statically one of the best units against the pass in the league.

He had more fantasy points than Tom Brady in Week 5.

You also have to keep in mind that John Fox foolishly continued to run the Broncos offense that was tailored to Kyle Orton for the first two possessions with Tebow.

Once the game plan was altered and Tebow was playing out of the shotgun (he struggled taking snaps from center), the fantasy points were coming in bunches.

His huge body type is ideal for goal-line situations. He can push the pile and break tackles or find the open man in the end zone. He’s going to be getting the touchdown one way or another.

You must also factor in what No. 15 did at the end of the season last year.

He was the leading fantasy scorer last season during the most significant three-game stretch. In Weeks 15 through 17, he ran for 199 yards and three TDs while passing for 651 and four scores. Those are some serious numbers.

It’s not like the Broncos have a great running game to take away fantasy points, either. Tebow’s fourth-quarter rushing TD was the second on the ground for the entire season for Denver!

It’s all on the QB in the Broncos offense, and that’s why even Orton was a decent fantasy option in a pinch.

Throw in a QB that can run the ball and we are looking at the guy that will potentially lead the NFL in fantasy points over the second half o the season.

This week he has a bye, but starting Week 7 against the Miami Dolphins he’ll be a must-start every week from here on out.
