Week 6 Waiver Wire: Avoid Temptation on Hines Ward and These 3 Week 5 Standouts

Eric BallOct 11, 2011

James Jones of the Green Bay Packers was incredible in his teams win over the Atlanta Falcons.

He caught five receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown. QB Aaron Rodgers found him on a deep route and the result was a 70-yard TD. It was a great play, yet….

Don’t pick him up.

Jones was one of 12 players to catch a pass from Rodgers. Only the Saints rival the Pack in terms of spreading the ball around to all of their receivers (pissing off fantasy fans everywhere).

Aside from Greg Jennings, nobody knows were the offense is going to come on. Factor in that Jones had a total of 88 yards in the first four games of the season and consider Week 5 a fluke.

Here are two other Week 5 stars to skip:

Hines Ward, WR-Pittsburgh Steelers

Ward is way past his prime and had been one of the big reasons the Steelers were off to such a rough start.

On Sunday he had 54 yards and two touchdowns in by far his best performance of the season. Aside from 67 yards in mostly garbage-time against the Ravens in Week 1, he hadn’t put up more than 33 yards this season.

His speed is gone and his ability to bully the opponent is as well. In other words…this guy brings little to the table in 2011.

Don’t be fooled by one good week.

Jason Hill, WR- Jacksonville Jaguars

Hill had five catches for 118 yards and a touchdown against the No. 1 defense on Sunday.

Don’t talk yourself into picking him up.

74 of those yards were gift wrapped by the Bengals on a blown coverage that left Hill incredibly wide open. Literally all he had to do was run a straight line and catch a ball in stride.

Blaine Gabbert is still adjusting to the speed of the game and isn’t going to be lighting up the scoreboard anytime soon. Continue to avoid the Jaguar receivers like the plague and especially this one week wonder.
