Week 6 Waiver Wire: Jackie Battle and 6 Pickups to Save Your Season

Eric BallOct 10, 2011

The NFL is as unpredictable as ever, and the fantasy world has followed suit.

Who in their right minds would have started Curtis Painter this week?

Well if you did, he rewarded you with 277 yards and two touchdowns.

That’s life in fantasy football, and it makes it ridiculously hard to project a player's value in a given week.

I’m not here to tell you who to start in Week 6, but here are six players who have played extremely well the last few weeks and who have the potential to score you mucho fantasy points over the last 11 weeks of the season.

1. Tim Tebow, QB (Denver Broncos)

1 of 6

Tebow Time!

Finally, the Broncos have handed over the team to the 23-year-old, and now is the time to pick him up despite going into his bye week.

In one half of football where he only completed four passes, Tebow still put up double-digit fantasy numbers.

Tebow isn't going to be throwing for 300 yards on a regular basis; his value comes in his ability to take off and run.

He had a spectacular 12-yard run for a TD and is the ultimate goal line weapon. Tebow's fullback-like body type is perfect for scoring touchdowns in goal line situations. When the Broncos have the ball within 10 yards, he is going to get the score more often than not, whether it be through the air or the ground.

Considering he’s available in 97 percent of ESPN leagues right now…grab him.

2. Jackie Battle, RB (Kansas City Chiefs)

2 of 6

Battle came out of nowhere to be one of the best fantasy running backs in the league in Week 5.

He ran for 119 yards on only 19 carries, and looked very strong and powerful against a decent Colts defense. With Jamaal Charles out for the year, and Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster struggling, Battle is going to get the majority of the carries for the foreseeable future.

The Chiefs have proven they don't plan on giving up on 2011, and expect Battle to be the catalyst for a Chiefs team that still has a glimmer of hope in the AFC West.

Besides, how can you not want a guy who touches the football 19 times a game?

3. Marshawn Lynch, RB (Seattle Seahawks)

3 of 6

Finally, Lynch had his first "beast mode" game of the season, rushing for 98 yards and a touchdown against a solid Giants run-defense. He displayed the sort of speed and elusiveness that had previously been witnessed years ago in Buffalo.

Lynch has been given up on by a lot of fantasy players, so check the waiver wire to see if some sucker in your league let him go.

With the Seahawks finally finding some sort of balance in their offense, Lynch will be collecting more carries as the season goes on, and the Seahawks lurk in the NFC West.

4. Jason Avant, WR (Philadelphia Eagles)

4 of 6

Philly fans are extremely pissed at Avant after he fumbled the ball twice in crucial situations against the Bills, yet his 139 yards kept the Eagles in the game as Michael Vick looked for him over the middle constantly.

He's yet to score a touchdown, which is an obvious concern, but that's the problem you’ll run into when LeSean McCoy and Vick are on the roster.

Avant is never going to be an every week fantasy stud, but he's a solid option for a spot start over the next few weeks.

5. Steve Breaston, WR (Kansas City Chiefs)

5 of 6

One of the big pickups for the Chiefs in the offseason was nabbing the quick and elusive Breaston.

After a painfully slow start, Breaston has been playing excellent football the last two weeks. He followed up four catches for 91 yards with four catches for 50 yards and two touchdowns against the Colts.

Cassel is figuring out how reliable Breaston can be, and the results are starting to show.

This isn't just a fluke few games; Breaston is going to only be a better fantasy option as the season progresses.

6. Doug Baldwin, WR (Seattle Seahawks)

6 of 6

The Seahawks are a really hard team to figure out.

After a few weeks of awful football, they are beginning to show signs of life on offense.

Baldwin, available in almost every ESPN fantasy league, caught eight balls for 136 yards and one touchdown on Sunday. It was the third game of the year where he registered at least 83 yards. With Charlie Whitehurst under center, the Seahawks' offense will finally begin to open up vertically.

With Mike Williams dealing with a concussion and Sidney Rice playing injured, Baldwin may be the most reliable weapon for Seattle right now.

That may not say much about the state of Seattle, but it's music to the ears of fantasy owners.
