Anderson Silva vs. GSP and 5 Super Fights That Need to Happen

G DOct 14, 2011

Over the recent decade, the Ultimate Fighting Championship has accelerated into a class of their own.

UFC fans have had the privilege of witnessing some of the greatest fights, knockouts and submissions in the history of mixed martial arts.

And, while the UFC continues to be the front runner of MMA today, at what point will fans want more?

At some point or another, the UFC will have to give the fans what they want.

The following slides display five super-fights that need to happen.

Let's take a look.

5. Jose Aldo vs. Dominick Cruz

1 of 5

Dominick Cruz has amazingly established himself as the best bantamweight fighter in MMA today as he's cleared out nearly every opponent in his weight class.

Similar to Cruz, Jose Aldo has also demolished every challenger in the featherweight division leading to only one thing—a super-fight between the two.

While it's likely Cruz would be the one to bump up a weight class, he's still one of the scrappiest fighters in the UFC today.

Aldo's world-class strikes against Cruz's overall talent makes for an electrifying super-fight.

4. Anderson Silva vs. Heavyweight Division

2 of 5

There's been recent speculation of the possibility of Anderson Silva moving to the light heavyweight division if he were to lose to Chael Sonnen in their rematch in early 2012.

Silva, who walks around at around 230 pound, would more than likely dominate the majority of his 205-pound competitors.

But, imagine Silva making the transition to the heavyweight division where he'd take on opponents such as Cain Velasquez, Junior dos Santos and many others.

3. Frankie Edgar vs. Jose Aldo

3 of 5

After Frankie Edgar's performance at UFC 136 against Gray Maynard, it's hard not to picture him in the super-fight discussion.

Prior to Edgar's recent bout there was much speculation in regards to a possible drop to the featherweight division. After a victory, it's unlikely Edgar will make the move.

But, if he were to make the transition he would eventually cross paths with arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in MMA today, Jose Aldo.

Edgar vs. Aldo has potential to be one of the most exciting fights in the history of the UFC.

2. Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva

4 of 5

Arguably the most talked about super fight in MMA today, could you imagine the hype and anticipation leading up to this bout?

With two of the world's greatest pound-for-pound fighters squaring off inside the Octagon, this mouth-watering, dreamed-about fight could come to be if Silva made the transition to the light heavyweight division.

Both Silva and Jones stand at the top of the MMA world as they have mastered nearly every aspect of the sport.

Could it be? One day? Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones?

1. Anderson Silva vs. George St. Pierre

5 of 5

Ever since Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre began dominating their respected weight classes fans began talks about a possible super fight between the two.

Now, years later, Silva and GSP are still dominating their divisions. The only problem: they've yet to meet inside the Octagon.

Arguably the two best fighters to have ever walked the earth, it's time for Silva and GSP to stand face to face. It's time to give the fans the fight they've been dreaming about for years.

The conditions have been set. It's time to make this super-fight happen.
