Aaron Hernandez Injury: Updates on Patriots TE's Week 6 Status and Fantasy Value

Donald WoodOct 10, 2011

Despite spraining the MCL in his knee, Aaron Hernandez kept his head up and worked hard to rehab his injury and get back into the New England Patriots' starting lineup.

Even with just one tight end on the roster, the Patriots have looked dominant. But now they get the second of two dynamic second year players back in the lineup with the return of Hernandez.

Aaron Hernandez is listed as questionable for Sunday's big game against the Dallas Cowboys, according to Rotoworld's Staff.

After playing last week (and dropping a sure TD), I fully expect Hernandez to play and make noise against a weak Dallas secondary.

All signs pointed to Hernandez playing in Week 6 after a strong return against the New York Jets last week, and that still seems to be the case as he felt good after practicing today, according to Dion Caputi of NFL Draft Update.

The fantasy gurus over at ESPN.com have posted their fantasy projections for Week 6 and they are optimistic that Hernandez will continue to work his way back strong on Sunday against a low-ranked Cowboys defense.

"

After an early scare, his knee held up against the New York Jets, and Hernandez ended up with more targets than anyone in this offense. No reason to think that changes much in Week 6. Projection = 11 points.

"

Hernandez struggled to move with any fluidity because of a brace he was wearing last week, but should continue to improve as he becomes more comfortable.

Courtney Fallon, a sports anchor on ABC 6 in Providence, passes along some bad news about Aaron Hernandez from today's practice. It shouldn't affect his playing status for Sunday's game, but it could hurt his fantasy numbers.

Since tight end is a weak fantasy position, deploy Hernandez as you usually would. Just be aware it might take him awhile to get back up to full speed.

The return of Aaron Hernandez to the New England Patriots' lineup is a welcomed addition, and while he is still recovering from a serious knee issue, he is already making an impact.

Fantasy expert Josh Moore is reporting on Twitter about Hernandez’s role already in the Patriots offense already:

While there are still some serious questions about how the knee injury will hold up, Hernandez will be a big part of what the Patriots do on offense every time he is on the field.

The New England Patriots showed they can win without Aaron Hernandez in the lineup, but the feat of beating the tough AFC foes is much easier when they have both of their stellar pass-catching tight ends.
