Green Bay Packers: 5 Keys to This Weekend's Game vs. the St. Louis Rams

J FOct 12, 2011

The 2011 St. Louis Rams are anything but the greatest show on turf while the Packers' offense is becoming just that.

Aaron Rodgers is simply on fire and it will take more than the 0-4 Rams to cool him off, but stranger things have happened. Green Bay must prepare for this game like every other.

Here are five keys to a Packers win at home in Week 6.

5. Rush the Quarterback

1 of 5

The Packers need to put pressure on Sam Bradford all game long. He's already been sacked 18 times in just four games and he'll try to get the ball out quickly.

Dom Capers and his crafty pass rush should be drooling at the opportunity to add to their total of twelve sacks on the year.

4. Continue To Stop the Run

2 of 5

The Packers are third in the league in stopping the run, but they can't take the Rams' backfield tandem lightly.

Steven Jackson should be close to full speed after the Rams bye week and he is still a very dangerous runner. Cadillac Williams will return to a backup role, but he has had a bit of a resurgence in Jackson's absence and could have a good game.

Green Bay's defense should be fine, but it must stay hungry.

3. Run the Ball

3 of 5

There's no need for Aaron Rodgers to take a hit in this game. All the Packers need to do is move the ball and keep the clock moving.

The best way to do that is to get the running game going with James Starks and Ryan Grant. It would also be a great time to get rookie Alex Green some touches since St. Louis is last in the league against the run.

2. Chemistry on the Offensive Line

4 of 5

Both Bryan Bulaga and Chad Clifton will be watching this matchup from the sideline, meaning Marshall Newhouse and rookie Derek Sherrod will once again replace them on the offensive line.

They've had their mistakes, but overall they've done a sufficient job of protecting Aaron Rodgers and allowing the offense to thrive.

Thankfully, Bulaga may return soon, but there's no telling when Clifton will be back on the field. It will be crucial for the Pack's offensive line to develop some sort of chemistry and keep Rodgers upright in this very winnable game.

1. Keep Focused To Avoid a Letdown

5 of 5

There should be great confidence in the minds of the Packers' players as they arrive at Lambeau Field on Sunday afternoon. After all they are hosting a winless squad while being undefeated themselves.

However, what they must avoid is complacency. They should expect to win, but not feel entitled to win.

The Packers must take one game at a time to keep their streak of 11 consecutive wins alive.
