NFL Rumors: If Tim Tebow Takes QB Spot, Will Broncos Just Replace Him in 2012?

Ryan PhillipsOct 10, 2011

When Tim Tebow took the field yesterday to open the second half of Denver Broncos' 29-24 loss to the San Diego Chargers, people immediately assumed he would be the team's starting quarterback of the future. Head coach John Fox is expected to name Tebow Denver's starter on Tuesday.

Tebow is Denver's only quarterback under contract for 2012, so it's likely the team has to start planning for a future with him now that the Broncos have fallen to 1-4. While that might not be an ideal situation for the franchise, starting Tebow now will let the team evaluate the 24-year-old and see if he can actually be a quarterback at the NFL level.

While the Broncos did come back on the Chargers with Tebow under-center yesterday, don't be fooled, the Florida product didn't look very good. He completed just four of 10 passes for 79 yards and a touchdown. But 28 of those yards came on a screen pass touchdown to Knowshon Moreno. Tebow also had 38 yards on six rushes and a touchdown.

So far Tebow has seen action in 12 NFL games. He has completed 45 of 92 passes (48.9 percent) for 733 yards, with six touchdowns and three interceptions.

Clearly the team's current management and coaching staff don't believe the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner can make it as a pro-style quarterback. Tebow has a lot to prove this season and if he isn't successful the Broncos might turn to a new quarterback in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Basically this will be Tebow's chance to prove he deserves to be the future of Denver's organization.
