Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather: Will It Ever Happen?
If you could only see one fight, which one would it be? The answer is pretty obvious for most people. We all want to see a fight between two legends in their prime: Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. Will it ever happen? As of now, both fighters have different paths.
Floyd Mayweather Is Not Afraid Of Anyone
Amir Khan could possibly be Floyd Mayweather’s next opponent. However, Khan first needs to win against Lamont Peterson. Afterwards, Khan wants to move up in the weight divisions and have one or two fights at that weight before fighting Mayweather.
In the past few days, Khan has made an interesting statement. He stated that Mayweather was afraid to fight Manny. This is a surprising statement since Khan and Mayweather are promoted by the same company: Golden Boy Promotions. However, his most interesting quote came when he said that Mayweather would dodge him because he is also afraid to fight him. I beg your pardon? Khan should stop talking, it’s embarrassing for him.
Mayweather would be afraid to fight Khan? Who’s Amir Khan again? What has he done? He defeated Zab Judah, but every champion defeated Judah so it is not a big accomplishment. He also won against an old Marco Antonio Barrera and an average boxer in Paul Malignaggi.
Floyd Mayweather has been in a ring with Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya and the list goes on. He is definitely the best boxer in the world. Do you really think that he is afraid of anyone? In my opinion, if anyone is afraid, it is Khan. He wants to have two fights in this division before fighting Mayweather. Is he waiting for Mayweather to be in a wheelchair before fighting him?
I don’t think Khan can win against Mayweather, but I believe that Khan is more a spy for Manny Pacquiao. Khan and Pacquiao share the same trainer, Freddie Roach. Therefore, both fighters are sparring together often. If Khan fights Mayweather, Roach will use him as an experiment for Pacquiao. He will not hesitate to sacrifice one of his boxers to get an edge for the biggest fight in boxing history.
You think that a boxing coach would never do this? Trust me; they do even worse things than that!
Pacquiao’s Secret
No one seems to be able to knock down Manny Pacquiao. He is unstoppable. When he is in the ring, he is a beast and unbeatable. Wait a second. Pacquiao does not have a perfect record. Have you ever taken a look at his past?
In 1996, he lost to Rustico Torrecampo by way of knock out. Who is Torrecampo? He lost four of his seven next fights and retired in 1997.
In 1999, Medgoen Singsurat also defeated Pacquiao by way of knock out. He only needed three rounds.
In 2004, Pacquiao sent down Juan Manuel Marquez three times in the same round. However, Marquez won the majority of the remaining rounds and the result was a draw.
In 2005, Erik Morales defeated him by unanimous decision.
Since the 2005 Morales fight, Pacquiao has not been defeated in fourteen fights. Eight of these fights ended before the limit and only one fight ended in a split decision. Pacquiao moved from 130 pounds up to 150 pounds. How does a boxer become so unbeatable? How do you become a legend at 26 years old without anyone being able to predict it before? Did he find a magic potion? Is he praying more often? Or maybe it’s only the fact that he started to eat chicken noodle soup?
The Key To Success Is Hard Work
This is what everybody wants you to believe. Yes, you can become a great boxer and even a champion with hard work. However, you don’t become a legend because of hard work. This is what Pacquiao keeps telling us, but we’re not in a fairy tale, this is real life.
When Michael Jordan and Lebron James were in high school, everyone knew they had the potential to become the next big star in the NBA. When they were in college, everyone was talking about them becoming legends. Wayne Gretzky did not become the best hockey player of all time at 26 years old without scoring a goal before. We could say the same thing about Sidney Crosby.
Basically, no one saw the potential in Manny Pacquiao when he was younger. Make a quick search on him in the media. Up until a few years ago, no one mentioned Pacquiao's name; In addition, people were not even sure about his amateur record. Even more, Pacquiao was struggling early on in his career and had three defeats and one draw. He was susceptible to go down, and now it seems that no one can knock him out even they get him right on the chin. How come his chin is now resistant to everything? Do you know many athletes who became legends at 26 years old without anyone noticing them before?
Pacquiao’s Next Opponent
Pacquiao will be fighting Juan Manuel Marquez on November 12th. Additionally, rumors have been circulating that Timothy Bradley could be his next opponent. Bradley is undefeated and will face Joel Casamayor in an under card bout of the Pacquiao vs. Marquez fight. Expect both Pacquiao and Bradley to win easily.
As for an encounter with Mayweather, I don’t think it will happen anytime soon.
