Notre Dame Football: Offensive Attack Will Push Fighting Irish into BCS Rankings
The Fighting Irish are going to be back in the BCS rankings sooner or later and whether you like it or not. Brian Kelly’s squad has rattled off four straight wins and most recently put up 59 points against Air Force in a 26-point blowout.
When it comes to human polls, it’s all about "what have you done for me lately," and you cannot argue that the Irish have been unsuccessful since their 0-2 start against unranked teams.
Because of this philosophy, I can see the Irish possibly landing inside the Top 25 of the first BCS rankings, even while they remain idle this week as they prepare for their Oct. 22 game against the USC Trojans.
The team is currently ranked 28th in the AP Top 25 Poll and 30th in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
With teams like No. 20 Baylor going against No. 21 Texas A&M, No. 11 Michigan at No. 23 Michigan State, No. 6 Oklahoma State at No. 22 Texas and No. 18 Arizona State at No. 9 Oregon, there are going to be a ton of teams shifted in and out of the polls after Saturday.
If a bunch of these fringe Top 25 teams fall off, it opens the door for the idle Irish to slip back in without lifting a finger.
Voters are going to remember the Irish offense pummeling Air Force and Purdue in back-to-back weeks and feel the need to put them in the Top 25, because there really aren’t too many other options.
One-loss teams like Washington, Rutgers, Penn State, UNC and USC could find themselves in as well if they prove themselves this week with solid victories.
If Notre Dame doesn’t make it in this week, you can certainly expect them to if they beat USC in Week 8. That would make five consecutive wins for the Irish, and that is something that voters won’t ignore.
