MiLB: Schaumburg Is Back in the Game

Devon TeepleOct 10, 2011

Alexian Field used to be the home of the Schaumburg Flyers. That's now in the past.

Things got a little ugly for the Flyers when they were evicted for owing nearly $1 million in fees and unpaid rent. That era is officially gone, and the new Schaumberg franchise will get its wheels running with the new team name being revealed at the “Team Launch Party” on October 18th.

With my recent posts describing the fall of another Independent club, this is the rebirth of one.

Patrick Salvi is responsible for getting this project off the ground, and you really couldn’t ask for anyone better.

Salvi, a Chicago attorney, also runs the Gary Southshore RailCats.

For those of you not familiar with the RailCats, take a look at what Salvi and his club accomplished in 2011: They set or matched 25 team records, twice broke the single-game attendance record in the final month (7,732) and hosted over 157,000 fans in 49 home games.

For one, I am thrilled about this new development and am really looking forward to the 2012 season for Schaumburg.

With all of the negatives written about them over the past few months, news about this fresh new start is all anyone could ask for.

If you are looking for more information on the Schaumburg franchise and its latest news and notes, visit its website here, or your can follow it on Facebook and Twitter.
