College Football Rankings: Oregon Ducks and 3 Teams on Week 7 Upset Alert
The Top 25 continues to change every week, and that isn't going stop after Week 7 because there will be some upsets.
The Top 10 didn't change at all this past weekend, but that could be very different come Sunday when the new rankings comes out.
As we approach the middle of the season, a few teams might be getting too comfortable, which could lead to a surprising loss when their opponent catches them off guard.
Here are three ranked teams on upset alert for Week 7.
Oregon Ducks
The No. 9 Ducks will host the No. 18 Arizona State Sun Devils on Saturday night, and they will more than likely be without leading rusher LaMichael James.
The Heisman Trophy candidate dislocated his elbow last week, and while he says he's fine, the Ducks may give him a week off just to be safe. Why risk further injury just for one week?
The Sun Devils have had their ups and downs this year, but their defense is very tough. Oregon only won by 11 points last season, and if James doesn't play, it wouldn't surprise me if the Ducks start out slow.
It's a home game for the Ducks, which is why I give them the edge, but they are on upset watch all week long, which adds even more pressure on the Pac-12's best team.
Clemson Tigers
The No. 8 team in the country, the Tigers have been a huge surprise this season. They beat three ranked teams in a row, but now they have a trap game against the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday.
Sophomore quarter Tajh Boyd is a huge reason the Tigers are in the Top 10, but he suffered a hip strain this past week that could hurt hinder his play. The Tigers say he is very likely to pay, but the possibility of re-injuring himself is very high, which could be Clemson's downfall.
This is a game the Tigers should win, as they have proven they can play very well on the road. However, Maryland knows this is a must win game for them if they want to compete in the ACC this season, and they will be on their A-game under the lights Saturday night.
The pressure continues to build for the Tigers, which is why no week is a guarantee for Clemson. If Boyd goes down or doesn't play, the Terrapins have a fantastic shot at pulling the upset.
Illinois Fighting Illini
Ranked at No. 16 in the country due to a favorable schedule, the Fighting Illini find themselves at 6-0, but now they have to face the Ohio State Buckeyes.
It's a home game for Illinois, which greatly helps. Add in the fact that the Buckeyes have been struggling lately and this looks like an easy win for Illinois.
However, the Buckeyes will bounce back and compete very well on Saturday because they have a lot of talent. Their tackling will be better against Illinois, and they will also have Dan Herron back at running back.
Freshman quarterback Braxton Miller is dealing with an ankle injury, and he is questionable for this game. Joe Bauserman isn't terrible, but he hasn't done much at all this season. He'll need to step it up on Saturday if asked to start for the injured Miller.
The Buckeyes have the mental edge because they've lost to Illinois twice in the last decade. Illinois is on a roll right now, but the Buckeyes will be ready to play them tough for all four quarters.
