2012 NFL Mock Draft: Players Who Will Be Drafted by Teams That Don't Need Luck
Some of the worst teams in the NFL right now don’t really have a use for a quarterback like Andrew Luck.
While he is as close to a can’t-miss pro prospect as you can get, some teams recently used high first-round draft choices on signal callers with a ton of potential and have yet to really give them a chance.
Teams like Minnesota and St. Louis will both have an early pick in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, but they most likely won’t select Luck if he is available.
Let’s take a look at some of the other top prospects who could go early to a team that doesn’t need Stanford’s quarterback.
Matt Kalil, OT
This guy has football running in his blood, and I’m sure you have already heard or drawn the logical conclusion that his brother is Carolina Panthers’ star offensive lineman Ryan Kalil.
Matt is doing a heck of a job guarding the blindside of Matt Barkley at USC and is a natural tackle who just has an occasional struggle with his technique.
The kid is going to be a stalwart and starter as a LT in the NFL for years to come.
Justin Blackmon, WR
The numbers that Blackmon has put up at Oklahoma State are simply mindblowing.
He has 38 receptions for 450 yards and four TDs this season, despite facing constant double coverage and teams looking to lock him down.
In 2010, he had 111 receptions for 1,782 yards and 20 TDs. I can’t even wrap my head around those incredible stats, and he will definitely be a good wide receiver in the NFL.
Quinton Coples, DE
This 6-foot-6, 285-pound beast of a pass rusher is having a down year, along with UNC in general, but should still be a high first-round draft selection.
The only thing he really lacks is an incredible first step, but his build and strength will allow him to have a long and prosperous pro career.
Dre Kirkpatrick, CB
At 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, Kirkpatrick has freakish size for a cornerback. His speed, athleticism and that size will allow him to cover any receiver at the next level.
I expect him to be the first corner off the board.
Vontaze Burfict, LB
This kid has a motor that won’t quit. While his stats aren’t eye-popping this season, he has the ability to impact a game on any level.
He should immediately be a force in the middle for whoever drafts him.
