Yahoo Buzz: Gina Carano 5th Influential Woman
Jared Barnes of blogs.chron.com/fighting found this via Yahoo Buzz, and I think it’s actually very interesting to look at. Gina Carano was named 5th influential woman for Yahoo’s Top 10 Influential Women of 2008 list. At first glance, I want to congratulate Carano on such an honor. However, after looking at this list and thinking about what it means to be influential, I can only conclude that ‘influential’ can be viewed as good or can be perceived as a negative diligence.
Let’s not forget what Yahoo is and where these stats are coming from. Yahoo is a search engine. Although, they do conduct other forms of business, their roots are still in the search business. They are more than likely just comparing their search stats for the year.
If you don’t believe it, lets look at some of the top search phrases in ’08 for the top 5 celebrities on Yahoo’s list. According to Google here are the top searches for each celebrity.
"Angelina Jolie - ‘angelina jolie naked’
"
Sarah Palin - ’sarah palin naked’
Oprah Winfrey - ‘email oprah winfrey’
Hillary Clinton - ‘hillary clinton naked’
Gina Carano - ‘gina carano naked’
We all know that naked pictures of famous people create big hype on the internet, and by the results of this survey, I don’t believe Yahoo has taken these stats into consideration. Now, with that out of the way, I have to give it up to Oprah Winfrey. She made it 3rd on the list and barely anyone wants to see her naked. Aside the fact that she has always been on internet top lists, people would have to question Yahoo’s integrity if Oprah Winfrey didn’t appear on the list of Most Influential Women.
Now, I’m not saying that I don’t like Gina Carano, or that she is not influential. In fact, I do believe that she has gone a long way in her MMA career and is very influential in her own respective industry, but one does have to question… Where would Carano be on this list if Paris Hilton revealed another Sex Tape or Britney Spears spread her legs again?
