Tim Tebow: 3 Reasons Broncos QB Should Start For the Rest of the Season

Jason HurleyOct 10, 2011

After a Kyle Orton meltdown, Tim Tebow was able to keep the Broncos in the game during their loss against the San Diego Chargers. While the comeback came up short, there is no doubt that this will heat up the Tebow debate in Denver. Tebow did not have an epic passing performance, but he did better than the pace Kyle Orton was setting by completing four of  10 pass attempts for 79 yards and one touchdown.

Kyle Orton

Kyle Orton once again proved himself unable to drive the Broncos offense. While it seems Orton has all the tools of a pro-style quarterback, he just cannot seem to consistently execute during game time.

Orton had a disastrous first quarter throwing in Sunday's loss, finishing the first half by going six-of-13, compile only 34 yards and a passer rating of 21.0 with no touchdowns and one interception. With a record of 6-21 over the past two seasons, the Broncos fan base and the coaching staff have probably seen all they want to see of number 8.

Denver is learning what Chicago already knew.

Cam Newton

The Carolina fan base knows how a single dynamic player can make a team more competitive and Bronco fans can see it too.

The addition of Cam Newton has helped the Panthers use what they already had to move the chains. Newton's throwing numbers have certainly been okay so far with a completion percentage of 58.2, 1,610 yards and seven touchdowns. But he has also thrown seven inerceptions, three of which were picked off during their loss to Green Bay.

While Carolina has only one win so far this season, Newton has been able to keep Carolina in the game during each of their losses and continues to improve each week.

You Wanted It, You Got It!

Ever since the Tebow arrived in Denver he has had a growing fan base. As long as Kyle Orton is tripping over his own feet and throwing picks, the Tebow fans will not give up.

Some fans seem to believe that Tim Tebow is the answer to their prayers and the future of the franchise. Others have a little a more realistic view and simply feel that Tebow may be their best shot at turning things around right now. Even if that turn around might turn out to be short term.

Either way, starting him will answer a lot of questions about a player who is dividing the fan base and the franchise.

Why Not?

There is something to be said for a baptism by fire.

If Tebow does well, the Broncos will at least have some short-term success or excitement until they figure out their next move.

If Tebow fails, then the fan base has at least seen why Coach Fox and others in the media said he was not ready.

Considering Tebow's talent and the amount of money spent on him, it is ridiculous to have him on the bench. With the quarterback spot being essentially being open due to Orton's ineptness, why not start him?

All we know about Tebow right now is from his time in college. He is an outstanding athlete who knows how to win football games and has the ablity to turn a broken play into positive yardage. The question is how will all these abilities translate to the NFL.
