College Football Rankings: Clemson and 3 Teams on Upset Alert in Week 7
Just when No. 8 Clemson began to look like one of the best teams in the entire country, they were crippled by the injury of sophomore QB Tajh Boyd.
Luckily, the Tigers were already comfortably beating Boston College.
This week, they get a frisky Maryland team that was a few plays away from shocking Georgia Tech on the road. Now Clemson comes for a visit at College Park and will likely have their QB, but not at 100 percent.
Clemson is deserving of their top-10 ranking, but only when they have a healthy QB. With the hip injury bugging Boyd all game long, expect Maryland and their quick strike offense to pull off the upset.
In addition to Clemson, here are two other teams on upset alert in Week 7:
No. 11 Michigan
The Wolverines are undefeated and playing extremely well heading into Saturday's game against Michigan State. Yet it's hard to ignore the issues QB Denard Robinson has throwing the ball, and the remedy is not the second-best defense in the country.
Expect the Spartans to put a lid on the end zone and force Michigan to methodically move the ball down the field, as opposed to big plays Michigan has grown accustomed to having this season.
Expect Kirk Cousins to light up a shaky Wolverines defense, and the home field to be the difference as the overrated Wolverines get a big slice of humble pie.
No. 19 Virginia Tech
The Hokies aren't the same team of years past, and the pollsters are slow to adjust accordingly. They needed an incredible comeback against a depleted Miami Hurricanes to pick up the home victory.
Now they play at Wake Forest, who is riding sky high after knocking Florida State out of the top 25. The weak V-Tech pass offense will struggle against an underrated Wake Forest secondary that gave QB E.J Manuel fits last week. Sophomore QB Logan Thomas is going to struggle and turn the ball over in front of a rejuvenated crowd that isn't used to watching good football.
Wake Forest continues their assault on the ACC as they take out the former bully of the conference.
