NFL Predictions: Cam Newton Will Smash Peyton Manning's Rookie Passing Record

Mick AkersOct 10, 2011

With how hot Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has started off his rookie season in the NFL, there is no doubt that he will destroy Peyton Manning's rookie passing record of 3,739 yards, which Manning produced back in 1998.

In Newton's first four games of his NFL career, he has already amassed 1,386 yards, which works out to 346 yards per game.

With 11 games left in the season, he is on pace to throw for 3,811 yards, which would eclipse Manning's record by almost 100 yards.

This is an even more impressive stat since Newton really only has one big weapon in Steve Smith, and he helped resurrect Smith's career in 2011.

Newton already holds the rookie record for most passing yards in a game with 432, and also tied an NFL record with two straight 400-yard games.

The Indianapolis Colts' record in Manning's record-setting year of 1998 was 2-13, and Newton's Panthers could be headed for the same record, give or take a game or two.

Although his team won't be making the playoffs, Newton will become a huge star in the NFL after many analysts doubted he would do anything of substance in the NFL.

What a way to throw it back in all his naysayers' faces by going out and breaking record after rookie passing record on his way to NFL superstardom.
