Week 6 Waiver Wire Pickups: DeAngelo Williams and 3 RB Who Will See More Carries

Brian MaziqueOct 10, 2011

The Carolina Panthers have to know that they need to run the ball more consistently to win. In Week 5, they ran the ball 22 times, but only 15 of those rushes came from running backs.

That has to change.

DeAngelo Williams figures to be the recipient of the increased commitment to the run. In Week 5, he ran for 115 yards on only nine carries. That production was deceiving, since 69 of those yards came on an option play.

Williams has game-breaking speed and is proven. Ron Rivera will likely start feeding him in Week 6 against the Falcons in Atlanta.

Jackie Battle may just be emerging as the man to get the majority of the carries vacated by Jamaal Charles in the Chiefs offense. In Week 5, he went 119 yards on 19 carries.

He will be a hot commodity for fantasy owners.

Big Jonathan Dwyer was born to be a Steelers running back. He is big, physical and a major north-south runner. He filled in admirably for the injured Rashard Mendenhall and Mewelde Moore.

Something tells me, on the strength of his 11-carry, 107-yard performance, Dwyer could easy beast mode his way into a lot more carries for the rest of this season.

The Steelers haven't been thrilled with Mendenhall this season or in the offseason. Moore has always been more of a change of pace back.

It feels like Dwyer is going to seize the time.
