Projected BCS Rankings: Forecasting How Next Week's BCS Top 5 Will Look
The first BCS rankings of the 2011 college football season will be unveiled next week, and although the first two spots will likely be occupied by LSU and Alabama, the rest of the top five could go in a number of ways.
Let's forecast how the top five spots in the initial BCS rankings will look next Sunday.
1) LSU Tigers, SEC
LSU is ranked No. 1 in both polls and are 6-0, including four wins against ranked teams. The Tigers defense has looked incredible, and this past week they beat Florida 41-11.
The Tigers play Alabama on November 5, which could decide their season.
2) Alabama Crimson Tide, SEC
The Alabama Crimson Tide are having an unbelievable season, and haven't allowed more than 14 points all season, while at the same time never scoring less than 27 points.
Alabama has a massive game against LSU on November 5, but even with one loss they should be a top-three BCS team at the end of the season.
3) Oklahoma Sooners, Big 12
The Oklahoma Sooners are on fire right now, fresh off a blowout 55-17 win against arch rival Texas. The Longhorns couldn't withstand the Sooners defense, and in the game Oklahoma sacked Texas eight times.
Oklahoma shouldn't be worried about being ranked less than third in the initial BCS rankings. They have more quality wins than Wisconsin, who are the only team that has a chance at being ranked third ahead of the Sooners.
4) Wisconsin Badgers, Big 12
Oklahoma State might be a better team than Wisconsin, and they'll have more opportunities for quality wins, but Wisconsin is currently ranked fourth in both polls, a few spots ahead of the Cowboys.
The Badgers last game was their 48-17 beatdown of Nebraska in the Corn Huskers' first ever Big 10 conference game.
Wisconsin is a quality team, who on their day could give the top SEC teams a run for their money.
5) Oklahoma State Cowboys, Big 12
Oklahoma State is a very good team, and they are not ranked higher than Boise State or Stanford in the polls, but their body of work is better than the Broncos and Cardinal.
They have a quality win against Texas A&M when the Aggies were ranked No. 8 in America, and get No. 22 Texas next week.
The Cowboys should be ahead of Boise St. and Stanford in the first BCS rankings next week.
