NFL Picks Week 5: Bold Predictions for the Prime-Time Games

Richard LangfordOct 9, 2011

There are a couple trends that have led to some interesting stat lines in the NFL's prime-time games this week.

Check out my bold predictions.

Green Bay Packers at Atlanta Falcons

James Starks will have more yards receiving than rushing.

If you have Starks on your fantasy team, you are in luck. He will find it tough going on the ground against a Falcons defense that is 10th in rushing yards allowed, but he will make some noise as a receiver in this one.

The Packers have weapons all over the field in the passing game. This is going to stretch out a vulnerable pass-defense shockingly thin.

Starks will be the forgotten man by the Falcons' defense in the passing game. Atlanta is ranked 25th in the league by Football Outsiders in terms of guarding running backs in the passing game.

Look for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers to exploit this matchup for some easy yards.

Game Prediction: Packers 31, Falcons 24

Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions

The Lions will get six sacks.

The Bears' offensive line is horrible. They have allowed their QB to be sacked on 10.3 percent of all pass plays, the 30th-worst percentage in the NFL.

The fierce Detroit Lions defensive line is going to feast on this group. They are going to put pressure on the Bears' QBs—they are likely going to need more than one—early and often.

The result will be a huge day for this defense, as they will record six sacks.

Game Prediction: Lions 27, Bears 13
