Hakeem Nicks Video: Watch Giants WR Lay Out for TD vs. Seahawks

Adam WellsOct 9, 2011

In just three seasons, Hakeem Nicks has established himself as one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, and it is thanks to plays like the one he made against the Seahawks in Week 5 that put him in that rarefied air.

With the Giants trailing 14-7 just before halftime, Nicks ran a go-route. He shoved defensive back Walter Thurmond out of his way, and Eli Manning threw the ball a little harder than he should have, but Nicks was able to lay out just as he crossed the goal line to grab the ball and score a game-tying touchdown.

Even though he plays in New York, Nicks does not often get talked about in the same breath as Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson and Andre Johnson. But his numbers since the start of the 2010 season speak for themselves: 103 catches, 1,399 yards and 14 touchdowns.

The biggest question with Nicks has been durability. He has yet to play a full 16-game season. His career-high is 14, set in his rookie year. But when he is healthy and on the field, there are few receivers who are better than he is.

Nicks is only 6'1", 208 pounds, but he plays much bigger than that. He has the speed and quickness off the line of scrimmage to beat any defensive back, which he showed on this particular touchdown catch.

Unlike some smaller receivers, though, he is not afraid to go against press coverage. The best receivers in the NFL have to be able to shine against the best defenses, and Nicks has certainly had his share of success against any kind of scheme.

By the time this season is over, there will be no doubt that Nicks is one of the best receivers in the NFL. The New York media will see to it that he gets the praise that he deserves.
