College Football Rankings: Auburn Has Legitimate Beef for Poll See-Saw

Brian MaziqueOct 9, 2011

The Associated Press obviously doesn't know what to do with the No. 24 Auburn Tigers. Ranking them at No. 24 in the nation after they were No. 15 last week. The 24-point loss to Arkansas was a road loss to a team ranked higher than the Tigers.

How does that equate to a nine-spot drop in the polls? It is true, the Tigers have been inconsistent in their 4-2 start this season. What started with a near monumental upset at the hands of unranked Utah State in Week 1, has consistently been a roller coaster ride through the first six games.

Here is where the Tigers 24th national ranking is ridiculous. The only two losses the Tigers have are to teams currently ranked in the Top 10. Clemson is ranked eight and I believe they should be above Stanford. While the Razorbacks are 10th in the country.

Auburn defeated 16th ranked Mississippi St. in Week 2 and 10th ranked South Carolina. It is true the Bulldogs have fallen out of the Top 25 since and South Carolina is now ranked 15th. The fact remains, these are quality wins.

Especially the win over the Gamecocks, as it came in South Carolina. It is almost as if the pollsters are looking for a reason to plummet the Tigers out of the Top 25.

There is no way Illinois, Nebraska, West Virginia or Michigan State are better than the Auburn Tigers right now.

Next up for Auburn, the recently poll-banished Florida Gators. A loss certainly drops the Tigers from the polls, while a win only vaults them, say...one spot (said with plenty of sarcasm).
