Mark Davis Raiders: Son of Late Al Davis Makes Rare Appearance in Public Eye

Wes ODonnellOct 9, 2011

Al Davis has been in complete control of the Oakland Raiders since 1970.

His sudden and tragic passing has not only affected the Raiders as a team and organization, but it has affected the entire league.

One of the most influential and important owners in the NFL, Davis leaves the club to his wife and son. Davis' only son, Mark, is expected to be the one at the helm of the franchise.

It has been said that Mark has been seen around the Raiders' facilities more frequently in recent years and that he was very interested in taking over when the time came.

When Al sold off a minority share of the team in 2007 he had said that he wanted to win two more Super Bowls or die before stepping down.

Unfortunately the latter came first and now the Raiders sit and wait for what is going to happen next.

Mark took his first steps into the spotlight earlier today when he was seen on the field during warm ups in Houston. The Raiders, 2-2, were 4.5 point underdogs.

According to multiple reports out of Houston, a number of players were seen lining up to talk to the new boss in the pre-game.

This is just the start of things for his new life in charge of one of the most historic franchises in all of football.

We can expect to see Hue Jackson play a major role in the transition period for this franchise.

By the time the season is over, Davis is likely going to have to hire a new GM.

Before he does that he's going to have to address the media or at least have CEO Amy Trask issue a statement.

When that time comes we can be sure to hear the voice of someone who will be excited, but sad about the prospects of taking over everything his father built.
