UFC 136 Results: Frankie Edgar vs. Ben Henderson Head-to-Toe Breakdown

Tim McTiernanOct 9, 2011

Saturday night, Frankie Edgar was finally able to defeat Gray Maynard.

After a first round which almost saw Maynard defeat Edgar, again, Frankie was able to recover and survive.

Then, in the fourth round, Edgar did what Maynard could not, and put away his opponent, as Edgar earned a TKO victory over Maynard.

In a fight likely to determine the next contender to the lightweight title, Clay Guida faces off against Ben Henderson at UFC on Fox 1.

Should Henderson win, he'll likely face off against Edgar, so let's take a look at an early head to toe breakdown.

Wrestling

1 of 7

As far as wrestling, these two are very evenly matched.

Ben Henderson was an NAIA All American in 2005 and 2006, and Edgar was a national qualifier all four years of college.

Striking

2 of 7

After seeing Edgar's performance last night, in a very close call, the striking goes to Edgar.

He may not have the best striking defense, see UFC 125 or 136 for proof of that, but he has now shown an ability to finish opponents with strikes at the highest level.

That is something that Henderson has proved unable to do.

Jits

By just looking at belts, these two would be even, as both are brown belts in BJJ.

However, even a quick look at their records shows you that Ben Henderson is more proficient in BJJ, as evidenced by his eight submission wins to Edgar's three.

Henderson defended his WEC belt when he defeated Donald Cerrone with a guillotine choke in less than two minutes.

The last person that Edgar submitted was Matt Veach, who is no longer with the UFC.

Cardio

4 of 7

This one should be a surprise to nobody.

Edgar has the best cardio in the division, and the only person who may come close to him is Dominick Cruz.

There's no arguing this one.

Edge: Frankie Edgar

Heart

5 of 7

Again, another no brainer.

After seeing Edgar get his a** handed to him in the first round of UFC 125 and UFC 136, nobody expected him to make it through both fights.

However, he was able to come back in each of them and win the second round, and at UFC 136, win the fight.

He did that all on pure heart and determination.

Edge: Frankie Edgar

Size and Strength

6 of 7

Size and strength is close, but it goes to Henderson.

Henderson stands at 5'9", with a 70" reach, and Edgar is 5'6" with a 72" reach.

Edgar may have the reach edge, but Henderson is the bigger, stronger guy.

Edge: Ben Henderson

Winner

7 of 7

In this fight, I really want to say Ben Henderson could pull out the win, and while he absolutely could, it would be impossible to go against Edgar after seeing his gutsy performance last night.

Edgar has the most heart of any fighter in the UFC, and I don't think Henderson would be able to stop him, no matter what he did.

Frankie Edgar defeats Ben Henderson by Unanimous Decision.
