Steve Smith-Malcolm Jenkins Fight Video: Watch Bitter Rivals Duke It Out

Andrew KulhaOct 9, 2011

It's no secret that the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints don't like each other all that much, so I'm not sure many people were surprised to see Steve Smith and Malcolm Jenkins get at it during this divisional rivalry game.

The Panthers are 1-3 and looking up from the bottom of the division, but that doesn't mean that they don't believe they can beat the powerful Saints.

The Saints came into this game 3-1, but still behind the Buccaneers for the top spot in the NFC South.

It's a tough division where every game matters, so you can only imagine how much this game means to both teams.

This little tiff proves how much is on the line.

Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith made a brilliant catch over Jabari Greer and then topped that off by shoving him to the ground on his way to the end zone.

Saints defensive back Roman Harper apparently didn't enjoy the play as much as Smith did, though, and he displayed his frustration by drilling Smith in the back with a very clear late hit.

At first Smith didn't seem to mind, as he proceeded with his touchdown celebration, but all of a sudden, Saints defensive back Malcolm Jenkins came flying into the picture, and it was off to the fights.

The two scrummed around for a bit as the rest of their teammates, including Panthers rookie quarterback Cam Newton, got involved.

In the end, only Harper was flagged for the late hit, but I can all but guarantee you this play will be under review by the league offices very soon.

It was an obvious dirty hit by Harper, but it's not as if Smith and the Panthers were in the clear, either.

Chalk it up to yet another intra-divisional rivalry gone a bit sour.
