BCS Rankings Predictions: Oklahoma Sooners and 3 Contenders Who Will Slip

Justin WeltonOct 9, 2011

All a team needs is one loss in college football and their BCS title hopes would probably be over. Oklahoma Sooners and three other teams have a tough road ahead if they plan on being undefeated when the season is over. Here are four teams that will slip up during the season.

Georgia Tech

No team rushes the ball like the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. They averaged 378 yards per game because of their triple-option attack.

No team scores as many points as them either. Georgia Tech has averaged 52 points per game including two 60-point performances.

They have a decent remaining schedule with tough games against Clemson Virginia Tech. The last game of the season will be against Georgia. That may be the game that determines if the Yellow Jackets slip up or not.

Clemson

Don’t sleep on the Tigers of Clemson in 2011. At No. 8 in the country, Clemson has an outside chance of making the national championship game. The odds are against them, but anything could happen.

After defeating three ranked teams, voters believe that they are deserving of their top-10 ranking. In retrospect, how good were the three teams that they beat though?

Florida State just lost to Wake Forest, Auburn is 4-2 and Virginia Tech never loses by 20 at home. The jury is still out on how good Clemson is this season.

Also, the Tigers will face some tough challenges later in the season. They will travel to Georgia Tech and South Carolina.

Michigan

Brady Hoke has lit a spark into the Wolverines in 2011. At 6-0, the Wolverines look to be serious contenders in the Big 10 conference.

They are ranked No. 10 in the nation.

Michigan will have road games at Michigan State, Iowa and Illinois. They host Purdue, Nebraska and Ohio State later in the season.

It isn’t incredibly tough, but isn’t necessarily easy.

Denard Robinson struggled down the stretch last season with his durability. That will be tested once again this season.

Oklahoma

I don’t blame anybody for thinking that the Sooners will make it to the national championship game. However, Bob Stoops has struggled in big games in his career. It isn’t as certain as some may think.

They also have a tough schedule. The Sooners travel to No. 17 Kansas State, No. 20 Baylor and No. 6 Oklahoma State. They also host Texas Tech and Texas A&M.

Their victories have been suspect. With victories over an overrated Texas and Florida State, Oklahoma haven’t played the teams that LSU or Alabama has so far.

Given their schedule, their recent history and quality of the conference, Oklahoma will slip up at least once this season.
