Tennessee Titans vs. Pittsburgh Steelers: Steelers' Keys to Victory in Next Half

Joseph MerkelOct 9, 2011

The Pittsburgh Steelers know this is a big game.

Coming off a road loss, Pittsburgh needs to get that vicious-game mentality back in their minds. Shutting down Chris Johnson and being able to get their own run game going behind a makeshift offensive line will be a key component.

With a generous halftime lead, let's take a look at what the Steelers can do to keep the Titans on their backs.

Ike Smash

Ike Redman is a very capable backup in the NFL, the Steelers just need to let him prove it.

Mendenhall is available to use, but they need to make sure Redman won't be successful before they use him. The Steelers can get a respectable lead, they're better off just leaving their Rashard on the bench for the game.

No reason to get him more injured if they don't need to.

Mike Wallace. Period.

Wallace is one of the fastest wide receivers in the NFL, and he absolutely needs to show off the burst.

The Titans secondary is a good one, but with Big Ben's arm and Wallace's speed they should be able to connect on a pass over the top, even if it takes a couple tries.

Ow-Line

In the first four games of the season, Big Ben has not been getting the coverage that he needs to be getting. With his bum foot he's not his usual mobile self.

The key to the second half for the Steelers should be getting one group of O-line as much time together as possible.

These guys need to mesh in order to survive.

Trickeration

The Steelers have been drawing up excellent plays thus far to keep the Titans on their toes.

The best part about it? They're actually working.

Pittsburgh needs to stay creative with its play-calling and they will absolutely continue to see success on the scoreboard.

Get the 'W'

This game is crucial right now. With the second rivalry game against the Baltimore Ravens coming up in just a few weeks, getting a tiebreaker against a team that beat the Ravens would be huge.

At the end of the season, this could be the season-defining game.
