Projected BCS Rankings: Oregon Ducks and 2 Teams Not Worth Their Rankings

Luis BatlleOct 9, 2011

With the Week 7 BCS standings soon to be released, it is evident that there are certainly those teams as always out there that are easily overrated, with the Oregon Ducks being one of them.

The Ducks are 4-1 and have beaten significantly weaker opponents in their three wins and are still ranked No. 9 in the most current AP Top 25.

Through seven weeks of football there have certainly been some projections nationwide prior to the start of the season that held strong. Teams like Alabama, LSU and Oklahoma have come out and dominated as expected, while programs like Oklahoma State, Standford and Oregon have all come out and played top 10 quality football.

Yet several of these teams are overrated as far as rankings go, as are the Ducks and several teams in college football. Here are the Ducks and two of teams not worth their rankings through seven weeks of the season.

2) Oregon Ducks

With a 4-1 start on the year, the Ducks undoubtedly are ranked much to high at the No. 9 spot in the AP Top 25.

Their one loss came to LSU to open the season, where the Ducks failed even threaten a victory against the Tigers, going down 40-27. Since, the Ducks have gone on to beat Nevada, Missouri State, Arizona and California in dominating fashion, winning by no less than 25 points in any of the four victories.

A big reason why the Ducks are winning big: the play of running back LaMichael James. James has already posted a remarkable 852 yards and eight touchdowns on the season.

As talented as the Ducks are, arguably featuring the most skilled, explosive offense in the country, they are still a team that has flaws defensively and is yet to play against more quality opponents this season.

After matchups against Arizona State and Stanford, the Ducks could ultimately prove their worth as even a top five team in the nation. But for now, No. 9 is certainly much too high.

1) Auburn Tigers

Through the first three to four weeks of the season, there is no question, myself included, that college football fans across the nation believed the Tigers were going to be able to put together a top 25 season without Cam Newton.

The truth is, this might be a difficult task for this team. This week the Tigers took on Arkansas, and were ultimately dismantled. In the 38-14 loss, the Tigers were outscored 31-0 in the last three quarters of the game after leading 14-7 at end of the first.

Despite beating quality opponents in South Carolina and Mississippi State, expect the Tigers to drop in the Week 7 rankings after the big-time loss to Arkansas. They are a young, talented team that will be a team to fear possibly as soon as next season, yet for now, they are still a squad fighting to gain experience and improve defensively.
